Have heard of this issue,in most cases while using HDMI cable.Try switching to component cable hookup.(Red/Blue/Green RCA type plugs). This will still give you Hi-Def.(don't forget to get a Red/White cord set for the audio also, unless you get a 5-way cord that does both).
The power source has aged prematurely and it needs several attempts to delivers the necessary starting current - you will have to open it and replace the filtering capacitors and check the regulating circuits and the board for heat damage (their aluminium radiators are undersized).

we had a SONY Rear projection and we had that problem turned out to be a bad fan and caused the main control board to fail thus the same problem contact the company and see what the warranty covers
I had the problem myself with my Scenium, the TV has a prblom with the circuitry and only fix is through an authorized RCA repare facility. Hope its fixed for you soon, awesome tv.

Hello bassin365,
The loud pop you heard was a filter capacitor. The problem now is the power supply is shot, or should I say the capacitor that is connected to that voltage output is blown. You will have to replace it with a new one. I would suggest just for your curiosity, unplug the TV, take the lower panel off (you will need a star head driver to do this) and look at the power supply board (the board on you left side) look towards the middle of the board and you will see a heat sink in the middle of that heat sink you should see a capacitor (or the remains of one). its value is 2200uf 16V (I believe that this is the one that has gone bad), you should also look for others that may have blown also.
I would also suggest that you have a qualified TV repair person come to your place and work on this for you, due to the nature of this section of your TV.
If you choose to do this yourself you will find this useful.
Get a schematic to find the values the Chassis number I believe is ITC222. Here is a link to the schematic:

The TV was working fine, some time during the night the power went out, its plugged into a surge protector, everything else works fine, the TV won't turn on, the fuse is fine, is there a reset switch?
