Question about SanDisk Sansa e250 MP3 Player

Please help..... its showing it needs music deleted... not enough space for music drive or something... it wont work in mtp mode.... and i cant get the music deleted. nothing is working rite with it! i dont know what to do

Reformat the player.

These are the most common methods for recovering Sandisk's Sansa Mp3 Players. I have been almost universally successful in recovering Sansa players using one or a combination of these methods. These methods do not work if you are having synchronization or music format issues - they are for recovering a player that will not power up, freezes, flashes, is not recognized by the computer, and a host of other issues.

Reset the Sansa Player first. On most models, restart is done by holding the power button in for 15 seconds or longer. Check your specific manual to be sure. The manuals are available from the Sansa website if they have been misplaced.
Download the Sansa Recovery Tool from the Sansa website.
Format - Erases Everything: Connect your Sansa player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "Sansa 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything.
Firmware Upgrade- Erases Everything: Get the latest firmware upgrade from Sansa - it updates the firmware and erases every song in the player all at once. Note: this method doesn't work if already have the latest firmware. Go to this website and click "Firmware Updater" to find out: http://www.sandisk.com/DriverDownload/driverList.asp
If these fail, then:
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
If you get the problem where MTP Device keeps popping up continuously, uninstall the “MTP Device” by going to Start à Control Panel àSystem à Hardware à Device Manager (you computer may vary slightly, depending on Windows Version).
You may have to restart your computer after each of these methods to get them to work properly. Disconnect your Sansa player BEFORE shutting down your computer.

For this issue, the reason why you're receiving this message is that some of the songs that are loaded on your Sansa is already corrupted and the only way you can resolve this is to format the MP3 player. This is a known issue with this particular player, specially if your combining the MTP mode and the MSC mode. MTP mode is your device will show as a Multimedia device under your computer and allows you syncronize your songs using Windows Media player . MSC (Mass Storage Class) mode lets you drag and drop songs directly to the player under windows explorer just like a flash drive.

"You need to format your device, the best recommendation is to place it into MSC mode. This is the Sansa's mass storage mode and it allows the device to be treated as a drive. Go to the settings menu and find USB Mode. There are two choices, MSC and MTP. Choose MSC. MTP is for music transfer using a media player software like Windows Media Player. If you don't have a way to set MSC mode with a menu on the device, engage the 'hold' switch, and while holding down the left or right button (others report also using the center button), plug the device into the USB connector. Make sure the USB is already plugged into the computer. You shouldn't need to do this with a standard e250; the menu should work. After you have connected the device in MSC mode, right click My Computer and choose Manage from the menu. Find Disk Management and select it. The disks should be numbered, starting with 0 for the C: drive. You should see a drive that says SANSA E250, or something similar. Write down the type of file system if it is shown. Most e250's says FAT32. Some are FAT, but check to be sure. There will be two partitions on the disk. The larger of the two is for your music files. The smaller is for when the device goes into "hibernation" - it's so you'll be back to the exact same song when it powers back on. Right click the larger partition and choose Format from the menu. You will see the format dialog. Set the volume label to SANSA E250 (I believe that's your device type), set the file system to what you wrote down earlier (do NOT choose NTFS!) and leave the Allocation unit size at "Default." Do not check either of the two check boxes. Click on OK. Keep an eye on the partition in Disk Management and you will see the percent complete. When it's done, look in the System Tray (by the date and time). You should see an icon for safely removing hardware. Double-click it to bring up the safely remove hardware dialog. Click on the USB drive representing your Sansa device and click Stop. Another dialog will come up and you'll have to do this again. Close the dialog when the device has stopped. The device will restart and initialize the music database. You're done! Now change to MTP mode and sync the device and add your songs back in. Whenever you are in MSC mode, ALWAYS stop the device as I described in the paragraph above. That way you won't corrupt the drive."

If you have formatted there is no music on the player. You will have to re-sync any the music. Set the USB mode to MTP, then Use Windows Media Player 10 or higher to sync player.

E260 shows 0 MB memory and 0 MB free space after recovery


Look, I think the best thing to do is to return the product. Normally, they gave you a new one. My old one broke with a blank screen. So the bestbuy guy talked to his manager and gave me a new one.

Sansa e260 - memory gone?


Have you tried re-formatting while in MSC mode? I've had quite a bit of success with repairing some memory issues with simple reformat. (Fat32). My wife's was showing almost no memory and no music at all. I reformatted and reloaded her music and it works great!

Magnosta,

On the e250, from the main menu, select Settings, then there should be a selection for USB Mode. From there, you can select either MTP mode or MSC mode, which I think is what you meant. See if that helps.

Mismatch Format


I have formatted it. No songs available when opened the playlist. But when I start the unit it shows "NoSpaceForDB Please Please Delete More Than4.0M.B". The property shows the "0 Memory is free".

Hi. The minimum requirements of your Sansa E250 is Windows XP and above and Windows Media Player 10 and above. If you're using Windows Media Player 10 or above, your Sansa E250 and its contents should appear on the right pane when you click on the "Sync" tab. You can right click on a song and select "Remove". The songs will be erased permanently from the player. If your songs do not appear on Windows Media Player 10 or above, it is possible that your songs may have been saved on another mode. Your Sansa E250 comes in 2 modes: MTP and MSC. Songs saved on one mode will not be seen by the other mode, and vice versa. There are 2 ways to delete songs from your Sansa E250: By browsing the folders containing the songs, or by formatting the player. You can switch modes by navigating your E250's menu using the following: Menu >> Settings >> USB Mode Next, plug your player in your PC and open Windows Explorer. You should first set your Explorer to "Show hidden Files and Folders" by going to the "Tools" menu (located on menu lists on Windows Explorer window), then choosing "Folder Options", then enabling the "Show Hidden Files and Folders" radio button Deleting Music files under MTP Mode: 1.
