The dryer will not start, it seems to hum. Sometimes you can get the dryer to start, and when you put a small load into it, it will not start? The dryer tub moves freely by hand.

My dryer won't start. When i activate the start switch I hear a hum like the motor is bound up.. I opened the top and the drum is not stuck and the belt seems in good shape. The unit is about 4 years...

check the blower wheel sometimes objects get caught in it not allowing it to spin. If it is clean open the dryer door push and hold the door switch and push start while it is humming rotate the drum. if it starts to spin then you need a new motor it will run you probably 150 - 200 dollars

Dryer does not start. if you push on the start button you can hear a small hum from the area of the timer, otherwise nothing. door switch seems to be working

one  make sure you advance the timer into the heating area of the cycle if you did that and turned it on and still humming you  have a bad motor

Dryer won't start all the time. can hand start unit.

hate to be the bearer of bad news but it sounds like ur motor is going out. Had this happen to my last dryer. If this is the case it will eventually just stop. Try running it without any laundry in it. if this works, then load it and see if it still works. (poor little motor has to work a bit harder with a full load) good luck.
