Question about Friedrich QuietMaster Electric SS10J10AR Air Conditioner

1 Answer

Cleaning The vent part of my Friedrich SS10J10A window AC unit (that is, the upper part, with the movable louvers) is crusted with mildew. I would like to take it off and clean it. I unscrewed the two screws holding the piece in place but something is holding the piece in the center. I don't want to tug too hard, lest I break the plastic. Suggestions? Thank you!

My husband figured out that the grilles themselves click out--not the whole assembly. Now he is going to have to figure out how to click it back in!

Mitsubishi electric Mr Slim wall unit heat and air. strange smell coming out when air is on, we cleaned filters, but do not know where the heat exchange is or the the fan to clean them

Ductless split systems are know for creating a mildew looking "stuff" on the blower wheel. Try to open/move the louvers on the front of the indoor unit. By opening the "osculation blade"/louvers, you can see the blower wheel, normally blue in color. See if it has some mildew growing on it. If so, I found that a tooth brush and about 2 hrs labor does some good. I've found some aerosol spray, called mildew removal. Works great at covering up/controlling the smell. It's also possible that the unit is pulling air from the condensation drain line. These lines can for algae, and give us a sour yuck smell. To clean, use a wet vacuum, and clean from the outlet of the drain line. Hope this helps!

How do I pull out the air conditioner from the sleeve? Something is holding the middle of the louvers preventing me from pulling out the ac. Help

if its getting hung up on the middle of the louvers check to make sure nothing has pushed the louvers in ,in that spot. Also look inside after you have front cover off to make sure all screws are out and it can have a simple catch lock on the inside to avoid accidental slide out.

How to remove front cover for cleaning

I don't know too much about your particular make / model but most window units have a 1 piece front cover which is usually held on to the main cabinet with 1 or 2 screws at the sides and 1 or 2 behind the filter panel. You will need to remove the front panel to remove the vents as they are usually fitted from behind the panel.

The 5840 has a problem with dust getting on the heater element and turning itself off after 2 minutes running. HERE IS THE FIX. Unplug the unit from the AC outlet, Then using a can of dusting air ( the kind you use to clean a computer key board) aim the compressed air INTO the middle louver of the upper adjustable heater vent and blow out the dust that has gotten on the heater element. ( You are actually blowing into the unit, clearing off the lint/dust that has gotten on the backside of the heater element that you can not see without openning the entire case). You can see the front of the heater element inside the louvers, It's the shinny metal part that looks like a small radiator. It sits behind the middle louver. After blowing out the dust, shake the entire unit to allow the dust to settle to the bottom of the case. Using a vacum cleaner try to vacum out any dust from the LOWER FRONT intake. Once the dust has been blown OFF the heater element, the unit will work just as new and not shut itself down!
