Netgear MR814 and Microsoft MN-520 issue after SP2... (by 3 users)

By Rachel007 - usenet poster

My laptop just had SP2 installed and now I cannot connect
to my network via the wireless connection.  I am running
a Netgear MR814 router/access point with the Microsoft
MN520 network card and using the Microsoft Broadband
Networking application.  The error that I am getting is
that it says that I have the incorrect security key. I
have entered the key several time and several different
ways.  I have connected the laptop via a cable and even
cut and pasted the security key in and still no luck.  I
have also updated the MS Broadband Utility from the MS
website.  I have a second laptop, a centrino setup, that
does not have any problems connecting, even after SP2.

Is there any way to get the MN-520 wireless card to use WPA for wireless security ? It will not connect to my wireless network because the wireless card is using WEP.

Howdy,

I had spent all last night trying to get my internet working.  After getting
SP2 and the updated MBU.  I eventually gave up and went to sleep.  This
morning I remembered about these newsgroups.  Your suggestion helped me out
a lot.  It fixed my problems.  Thanks a bunch.

Try removing the Microsoft Broadband Networking
Application.  Once you remove that program go to the
wireless network properites and click the check box that
says "Use Windows to configure my wireless settings."  I
have the exact same set up and had a very similar problem
and once I did that I had no problems.  My guess, judging
from the errors is the SP2 and the MBU are not compatiple
at this time, I am sure MS will get to this sooner or
later but the MBU is not really needed.  Best of luck.

Don't use the MS Broadband Networking Utility to setup your security.
Instead, use Windows built in Wireless configuration to set it up.
