Question about SanDisk Sansa e270 MP3 Player

E270 isn't recognized by windows; can't enter recovery mode

My problem is similar to others in that the Sansa isn't recognized by windows when I plug it in, and the screen is black (no backlight). When I try to enter recovery mode (using the record button method), the computer does not even attempt to recognize it. When I press and hold record along with the center (select) button, and then plug in the USB cable, the computer will recognize the device as a USB device, but it will not locate any drivers. I have the latest version of WMP and all of my drivers are up to date. Is there any way to get my e270 to where the 16mb partition appears in windows even if the player won't enter recovery mode the conventional way?

Are you running Vista? shame on you for not checking to see if your player is compatible with it

If you are running XP:
Either the device is bad, the pc port is bad, or the software is faulty. Try connecting to different usb port, then a usb port on a different pc with a compatible os. If still not recognized, then there is physical damage to player.

Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware.

Probles with formatting and resync sansa e270


hi! you can try reformatting by activating the keylock and then press and hold the record key while turning the power on. it will go to the recovery mode.

plug the mp3 usb to your pc.

open a notepad apllication and create a new blank file.
save as sansa.fmt and change save as type, it should be All Files. it will create a file with 0 bytes.

you can now disconnect the usb and wait til the mp3 displays formatting.. it will reformat by itself.

These methods do not work if you are having synchronization or music format issues - they are for recovering a player that will not power up, freezes, flashes, is not recognized by the computer, and a host of other issues.

Reset the Sansa Player first. On most models, restart is done by holding the power button in for 15 seconds or longer. Check your specific manual to be sure. The manuals are available from the Sansa website if they have been misplaced.
Download the Sansa Recovery Tool from the Sansa website.
Format - Erases Everything: Connect your Sansa player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "Sansa 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything.

My Sansa e270 Will Turn On Then When It Starts Loading It Will Get 3/4 Of The Way Then It Goes To A Black Screen.What Do I Do?


try this...

1 put on hold and hold record button while u turn on (your sansa is now in recovery mode)
2 connect your sansa to your comp via usb cable a box should show up saying the firmware version
3 close the window and disconnect your sansa (it will restart)

if that doesnt fix your problem try this...

1 connect your sansa to comp via usb cable
2 right click start on windows desktop go to explore
3 scroll down to your sansa's drive rifght click it go to properties
4 go to tools tab and click "check now" under error checking will take awhile and will erase your memory on the sansa but it will probably work again

Getting to recovery mode


You have to Download the Sansa Recovery Tool from Sandisk's website first. Then, disconnect the Sansa from the computer, press and hold in the REC button, and then reconnect the Sansa while holding the REC button.

My sansa e270 6gb is frozen and wont go past the refresh database screen what can i do to erase all the data that is on it and start all over


I'm always hesitant to give this answer, because if it's done wrong, you can do more damage to your player, but the answer is: you need to format your player. I would format the player from inside the player's settings menu - but if it's stuck on Refresh database, you may not be able to do this. Follow these steps in order:
