i'm having a similar problem except my blade is loose. i cannot tighten it because the nut and bolt turn together. i took the motor apart and tried using a vice grip on the bolt, from the top of the mother, but the blade and nut still turn together.

You need impact gun.air or electric operated impact, run it reverse. it shouldn't be loose like that. i am guessing the armature drop could be the ring is out of the armature groove. ring are located inside the motor assy.

I need a diagram for the timing belt on my castel garden 20/122

pauly46_0.gifpauly46_1.gif hi there winger1886

pauly46 here

with 20/122 the blade timming must with one blade vertical and one blade horizontal
doesnt matter which one but as long as there is 90 degrees between blade as the rotate
in the picture the r/h blade rotates anticlockwise and the l/h blade rotates clockwise

the picture for belt / blade timming is straight forward - loosen tensioner rod and back it off completely , loosen 2 x bolts under the two toothed pulleys and remove the 2 belt guide/ stoppers from the l/h side - place both blades in the rqd position ( you may need someone to hold other blade in rqd position - fit the belt onto pulleys as in the diagram- continually check while fitting that timming has not moved from where you placed them ( they have to be 90 degrees from each other ) and then tighten the tensioner rod to hold position - rotate by hand recheck timming - if good loosly fit guide the 2 guide stoppers to l/h side and place 3.5 kg of tension at the middle point of the longest run of timmed belt ( belt should only deflect 10 mm with 3.5 kg of tension )
once tensioned tighten the 2 bolts under the toothed pulleys and tighten loc nut on adjuster
tighten the 2 stopper / guide nuts

in the picture the left hand blade is a l/h thread undo it right and tighten it left

the blade on the right is a normal thread left loose - righty -tighty

cheers hope it helps

Shaft turns while trying to remove blade on B&D MM875 elec. mower

Here's the scoop on the MM875: it has a plastic piece called a "blade insulator" (part # 241381-01) that "locks" the shaft to the blade, so that you can remove the nut by stopping or blocking the blade. If it has been damaged or stripped out, then stopping the blade won't do anything. However, the metal spacer directly under the nut IS still locked to the shaft (because of its shape), so you can use a pipe wrench or something to hold that in place and unscrew the nut. You might even be able to get someone in a home improvement store to do this for you. But you will still need to replace the insulator, which is only a few dollars.

Cable to engage the self propelled pully came loose. How do i reattach it?

Hi,
Instructions
Step 1 Locate the spark plug wire, and disconnect it from the spark plug.
Step 2 Remove the screw that is used to secure the belt cover to the mower with a screwdriver. Take the belt cover off of the mower.
Step 3 Loosen the belt tension bolt with the socket wrench. The belt tension bolt is located next to the wheel adjustment lever on the left front of the mower.
Step 4 Pull the front part of the drive belt off of the transmission pulley that is located on top of the motor.
Step 5 Tilt the mower on its side, and pull the rear part of the drive belt over the mower blade.
Step 6 Insert the rear of the new drive belt over the mower blade, and place the front of the belt over the transmission pulley.
Step 7 Tighten the belt tension bolt with the socket wrench.
Step 8 Locate the adjuster nut located on the underside of the mower near the belt tension bolt.
Step 9 Tighten the nut with the wrench until it touches the spacer, and slightly loosen the nut so that the spacer can turn.
Step 10 Set the belt cover back onto the mower, and secure it with the screw.
Step 11 Re-connect the spark plug wire to the spark plug.
Good Luck!

Changing blades. To loosen the blades nut, which way does it turn?

hi. you dont say what make or model but I offer the following. if it's just a single bolt or nut holding the blade it will rely on a bellville type washer (dished ) or will be pegged either side of the nut or bolt, if the later try to drive the pegs down level with the mounting boss, now get a couple of friends to lift the whole deck so you can secure the nut or bolt in a vice (vise) and using both hands turn the blade itself the opposite way that you would turn the nut, this has never failed for me, if the blades counter rotate, one will be left hand thread the other right hand. bear in mind that a rotary blade spins at around 150-200 mph, every time you hit an obstruction (and you will) the blade will tighten particularly if secured with a belleville type washer. best of luck

Craftsman mandrel replacement::?????HELP

You dont have to drop the deck. Remove the belt first then hold the blade in place so you can loosen the nut on top of the pulley. after you remove the pully then remove the blade. There are 3 bolts holding the mandrel in place remove the bolts. Then pull the mandrel out from underneath the mower deck. There is a shroud that will come loose with it or it may stick from accumilated grass regardless it needs to go back during reassembly. When putting it back together the 3 bolts are usually self tapping into the new aluminum mandrel. Its much easier to put these in and take them out before you install the new mandrel as the bolts cut the threads.

Hope this helps

Replacing the blades on a craftsman dyt 4000

Not a hard job, but you will need a couple of tools. First, you will need a wrench that fits the nut that is holding the blade on. I prefer a closed end wrench, but an open end will do. Second, you will need a blade changing tool. The brand name is called a Blade Hog. It attaches to the deck and holds the blade in place so you can turn the nut. Raise the deck as high as it will go, attach the Blade Hog, and then loosen and remove the nut. Be sure and pay attention to which side is up on the old blade and put the new one on in the same manner.

hope this helps,

Blade assembly does not tighten

problem could be the armature ring/ drop. it's for the bearing stopper. if the ring slip off from the grove, all you to do is to put it back to the grove & make sure that the grove are in good shape..its common problem for older armature type.
