SD type cards have a little switch on the card that can write protect or "lock" it. Take the card out of the camera and check this switch. To unlock it, it should be moved towards the edge of the card which has the electrical contacts.

How can i switch a memory card from read only to open

You didn't specify the type of memory card so I'm assuming it's a Secure Digital card.

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

If this doesn't do it, try a different card.

Cant take pics, says card protected. used earlier and was fine, now wont take pics at all

Hello,

Have you checked your memory card to see if it IS in fact protected? It is amazingly easy for some camera memory cards to become accidentally protected.

Check and see if you card has a switch that allows it to be set to read only. And if it does make sure it is not set to read only.

I cant take pictures or videos since it says write protect on the screen. How do i fix this?

Take a look athe SD card in the camera to see if the little slide switch on the left side is down. That is the write protect switch of the SD card to prevent you from over writing data/pictures or formatting the memory device accidently. push the switch up and try again.

I do not known if it is my memory card or what.

remove the memory card from the camera, then check a notch or type of slide switch at its sides. adjust the swicth to make sure the memory card is not write protected. Insert it back to the camera and test it again

Need help..pls

Some memory cards have a tiny write-protect switch on the side of the memory card. If so, try changing it.

If someone has used the Set Password function on it, and no one remembers that password, then you are out of luck.
