I have a mac, I erased my flipvideo images via the mac trash can (oh what a mistake) after transferring them to the mac.
Now
I get the stupid message that the camcorder is empty, and when Itry and
shoot anything, I get a message its full. Did you ever find theanswer?
I found the solution!
Just put the Flip camera back into any computer on which you deleted files — then, with the Flip camera still attached, empty your trash bin.
All of the time comes right back. The only catch is if you have deleted files on many different computers. At some point, you will have to go back to those computers, insert the Flip, empty the trash and then you'll get your minutes back.
It's awesome. I am back in love with the Flip.
GERSH
"Newsroom". you just made my day! My purse spilled my Flip onto a hard floor surface. Thereafter I got the Camcorder full/Camcorder empty message. I missed out on recording a very special event but I'm so glad to have my Flip restored. Can't thank you enough.
This just got me my 60 minutes back. Thanks!!!
omg you just saved my life!!! this is amazing!! thank you thank you thank you. i got all my time back

I had this same problem and even after deleting my trash on my MacBook Pro, I still got the Camcorder Full, Camcorder Empty error messages.
I used the Mac's Disk Utility to erase the Flip drive and it worked like a charm.
I have a Mac and tried everything including using Terminal, but nothing worked and this did. Just go into Disk Utility and erase the disk. Worked like a charm!
I have a MacBook and a FlipPure Digital. I didn't want to erase everything in my Trash. So this works great! Thanks. Keep your Flip connected via USB. Go to Applications. Go to Utilities. Go to Disk Utility. Highlight the 'Flip video camcorder media' in the left side. Click on Erase tab. Click on Erase button. 'Eject' Flip Video camera. Voila!

Woop! Awesome :) Worked for me too.
I had this problem with like 15 of these that students had used. Disk utility on Mac worked for every one of them! Thanks
Works! Thanks so much!!
YAY! THIS WORKED. I want to send you $100! Thank you!

Naw I'm not sure how to do it on a mac. Because that is what I use the most, but I found a way to solve the problem on a PC. Just right-click the camcorder on "My Computer" Click format and change to default settings and click ok. It takes a while, but it should work!
Crazy, but it works!!! I had the same exact issue. The camera said "camcorder full" even though I had erased or downloaded all the video off the device. I plugged it back into the same computer and emptied the trash - and it worked.
Worked for me too. Thanks. Initially flip Ultra said I had 15 minutes left - after attaching it to USB and THEN emptying the Trash (on my MAC), when I removed the Flip and restarted it, Hey presto 2 hors time are back. Very grateful.
Hey- I had the same problem. I contacted Flip support but figured it a way before they returned support ticked... Here's what I did... I inserted my Flip Ultra HD unit into computer. Empty trash can (Mac) while Flip was still attached. Ejected Flip and removed. Tried the record button and it worked like magic. Thanks a bunch!
Thanks...I emptied by trash folder and it solved the problem. Please note I had the flip CONNECTED to the mac when I did this. I then ejected the flip (didn't just remove).
What has happened?
- computer was used to erase the video
- you should use the FlipVideo trash
When connected to a Mac and you delete files they are stored in .Trashes folder.
This is a hidden folder.
To clear the hidden folder: (This can be dangerous!)
- Go to utilities
- launch Terminal
- Type:
CD /volumes/flipvideo
rm -R .Trashes
Wouter
Turn on Flip
Connect Flip to computer via USB
Open Recycle Bin
Left hand side find Computer and LEFT click
Find Flip under Devices with Removable Storage
Move mouse over Flip and Right Click once
In drop down box Left click Format
In Format FLIPVIDEO box Left Click Restore device defaults
Click start button
Bo x will appear WARNING:Formating will erase All dataon this disk.Click OK
20 to 30 Seconds later another box will appear saying Format Complete.Click Ok
unplug Flip from computer
Restart Flip
FIXED
Hope someone finds this helpful
this will not affect the files in th flip library that have been downloaded alread correct?

With windows vista OS, and after all else had failed(reset button never worked properly) solved the loss of record time problem by reformated the memory in the MinoHD using my computer.
Connect camcorder to usb port on computer,Click start, computer, under drives right click on flip drive, on drop down menu click on format this drive. Took a while to complete by it worked,
Flip support is not good. There are many other problems with the camcorder you have yet to happen.,regardless of how well it's working now.
Flip support just strings you along ,wanting you to send it back to them 4 every little problem, until the warranty expires , then they want to charge you for those pre-programmmed errors that haunt this bugg filled crapcorder! It's poor QC that they let pass but have decided instead to exploit it in favor of squeezing some more money out of you.
I'm a electronic tech and I tell you that the necessary actions I took to solving all the problems that plauged my unit , will void the warranty.
If you are not a tech , the best advice I can offer any non-tech owner is to SELL IT, and don't waste any more time or money on it,or contact the FTC.
If you have a mac rename the the folder the trash is in then unplug your flip while its unplugged empty the trash on your desktop when its empty plug back in your flip ,and delete the file you renamed . it worked for me hope it helps
In windows 7 I navigated to the flip via my computer and hit the "eject" button and got all my time back.
SOLUTION: *plug flip into the computer that you usually use with the flip (the one you use when charging, deleting/editing videos, etc.)
*Go to your trash bin and delete everything with the flip still plugged in.
*Unplug the flip once trash is empty and it should work perfectly.

Yeah, it totally works. Seems like there should be a way to delete some file on the flip hard drive to achieve the same results.
What if you already deleted the files in the trash of the computer you emptied them too? Does it still reset the time on the flip, without those files in the trash?

Same thing. won't play "empty" message. Won't record "full" message.

Same problem. But I must say, I do love the Flip.

Um...hi.
My mac won't let me empty the trash to get the minutes back!
HELP!
horrible././ 2 bad situations.. rather use me MARK2.
:( GRRRRRR
Yes. My camera says I only have 7 minutes to record when it is completely empty. (Mino-HD)
exact same problem - says empty if I try to send to trash, says full if I try to record
THANKS Newsroom, great tip, totally solved the problem.
I get camcorder empty and then camcorder full when I try to record.
This so solved my problem. I have the flip and kept saying that memory was full when i only had 10 seconds of video recorded. After clearing the trash can on my desktop after plugging in the flip it works perfectly
I saved videos from my Flip Mino HD onto my Mac then deleted the folders. Â Now my camcorder says it is full, but there is nothing in my folder. Â What do I do? Â I was able to use my Flip video ONE day.
Whoop Whoop! Had this issue for over a year (I gave up and put it in a drawer) but this fixed it. Thanks so much!
