Question about Uniden BC60XLT-1 Handheld Scanner

1 Answer

Scanner static My portable scanner works fine for approx. 20 minutes and then is constant static on most channels. I can't even turn down the squelch since it still doesn't affect the static as I turn it down as low as it can go. I really miss this scannner. I have moved it all over the house and also tried it outside with the same results. Any idea what could be wrong with it???

Use the channel lock out control, unless it is a frequency that you listen to, you may have interference that is causing random static. use a noise filter mechanism to minimize this problem, or buy a specialized scanner antenna that's guaranteed to minimize static.
If no avail, you may need to send it in to a store.

Hope this helps!

One of three Uniden GMR3740-3CK constantly recieves static that goes on and off. tried swapping batteries and did not work. rx display goes on. Very annoying. Other 2 radios are fine. Is there a setti

Well, it IS the squelch level. Most radios do not have an adjustment for this. Take the bad one back, you've done all the tests you can. Good job.

Uniden Bearcat BCD996T will not squelch, just has constant noise on every channel. Any ideas on what has happened

Have you done a reset just to make sure something such as static did not change the software in the microprocessor? Try that before you go to a repair shop.

How can i stop the squelch ive tryed turning the sqcuelch doesnt help

Plug the AC adapter into the back of the scanner and into a wall electrical outlet. Screw the antenna into the receptacle on the back of the scanner (extend the antenna to full length for best reception).

  • 2 Set the squelch level to allow signals to be heard by turning the squelch knob counterclockwise. Rotate the volume knob clockwise until you hear static. Slowly turn the squelch knob clockwise until the static noise disappears.
  • 3 Start programming frequencies into the scanner by pressing the "Manual" button.
  • 4 Press the up arrow or down arrow key until the channel you wish to program is visible on the display.
  • 5 Use the numbers on the keypad to enter the frequency for the local transmitter you wish to receive.
  • 6 Press the "E" key to complete the process of entering the frequency.
  • 7 Repeat steps 3 through 6 for each additional frequency you wish to monitor.
  • 8 Press the "Scan" key to start the scanning process. The scanner stops on a channel when it detects a signal strong enough to hear over the squelch setting. Two seconds after the signal stops, the scanning process resumes.

Can't get audio on Bearcat 244CLT scanner, or get any of the buttons to operate properly. Can set the clock, but that's it. Volume and Squelch set all the way to right, not even static sound. Nothing on...

You can try a master reset. This will delete any frequencies that are programmed. Here is the way to do a reset...
Turn scanner off. Hold down, 2-9-HOLD (all three keys at once)while turning on the scanner. Keep holding the keys down for about 3 seconds. The word CLEAr should come up on the screen.

    Scanner wont scan

provided you turned the squelch know and it didnt help, i would trace back from the squelch control to the first and second transistor you come to and that should be the squelch circuit. if you know how to check them with an ohm meter you can find out which one it is, if not you can just replace them both for under 5 bucks.

    Constant Rx

Hi, It would initially seem that your auto squelch is malfunctioning. With the squelch apparently way down, the RX indicator would automatically appear as if you are receiving something (even if it were just noise). Assuming no other fault except the auto squelch, a possible workaround is to use any of the 38 CTCSS codes both in receive and transmit. With the CTSS activated (TX/RX), even with squelch all the way down or auto off/defective, you will not hear anything except a radio transmission with the correct CTSS code. Again, this will only work of course with just the auto squelch muting problem. Any other problem/fault and this method may not work. Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turn out or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.
