Question about AMD Duron , 700 MHz Processor
I've tried ubuntu x86-64bit, also xubuntu alternative amd64CPU.The ubuntu, which I'd ordered through the mail showed that it required x86-64CPU... that it only detected i686CPU...can't boot...install appropriate kernel! I don't know which might be appropriate, none show : specifically intended or suitable for - i686! Someone must know which is best for such a system?! I've looked around and asked questions.. after the ubuntu cd xubuntu was recommended, did not specify which, though. pls help thanks
Not exactly sure what you are saying... but you DO have a Duron 700? That is 32-bit. No x64 for you!
If that is not what you're saying. You are saying that you received an Xubuntu alternate distro from Ubuntu? Ubuntu comes in prepackaged distributions for i686 (i386, i486)-32bit and x64-64bit.
You can download the Xubuntu for free at
Select the Hardy Heron i686 version. When you install, the installer "should" select the best kernel for your system.
