It is a Carrier Model 40ES

When the a/c kicks on, it makes a high pitched noise. but the noise stops after about 2 to 3 minutes-- usually.

I have a brand new compressor (last year)!! The problem is up in the air handling unit in my attic. I went up there and listened to it. It is coming from the fan motor! What I need is to know where to get a repair/service manual and where to get a Carrier .25 HP motor (provided Carrier's OEM motors are not proprietay) and a standard, generic motor can be used.

I need an operation manual for a carrier transicold supra 644

You can order a manual at the following link; http://steprightupmanuals.com/refrigerator-service-manuals/carrier-truck-and-trailer-refrigeration-service-manuals
Just select the Supra 644 through 844 series and I believe it is $6.99 to order from this site.

I don't know what part of the country you are in, but here in Okla. a condenser motor can be bought by the home owner for around $100. You should be able to go to any appliance supply house and purchase your own motor. Take the model and serial number with you, it may help. If you have a local carrier distributor, they should give you a users manual. Try your best to get a motor close the the same as what you have. Note the horsepower, rpm, voltage and take the fan blade with you in case you need a new one. Hope this helps. Mark

Hello
This is an error in the manual.Or the wrong manual in the motor box.Almost all small motors today have sealed bearings which are lubricated at the factory.

A sealed bearing motor requires no maint from you and will probably last 5 to 10 yrs maybe longer.

I would just check it for dirt or dust and keep it clean as much as possible to ensure a long life.

Furnace runs constantly since blower motor was replaced

Sounds like they wired it direct to line voltage , it should run through a sequencer or fan relay to cycle on and off , your seq./relay could be stuck closed to but unlikely being it was just repaired , call the service company back before you do anything they are responsible.

You shouldn't have to get the OEM or manufacturers motor. Get the info. off of the old motor like volts, RPM and HP(horsepower) or just bring the motor to an appliance parts store. They should be able to match it up. Make sure that you get a new capacitor for it too. The cap. rating will be something like 5mfd on the motor.
