Water in my zune

Ok i dropped my zune in water but got it out in seconds. I shook all the water out i could immediately and set it out to dry. about an hour later i went home and completely took it apart so it could dry thoroughly. It booted up and came to the home screen but then then the screen turned wierd colors and eventually blacked out but the zune was still on. Will buying a new screen solve my problem or do you think something else fryed?

would it be cheaper to send it in for a repair or should i just buy a new one. I don't think there is anything wrong with the screen cause i eventually got it to where the screen would flash the zune symbol but it would never actually go to the main menu.

I was taking a bath and as I was getting out, my zune slipped into the tub of water. I dried it off and blew out as much air that I could but it still won't turn on. I let it dry for a few hours and it still won't turn on. What should I do?

Hello Rogue_45,

It's hard to know for sure but my feeling is that if the screen has water damage it is probably not going to be the only thing damaged. It sounds like you did everything right to minimize the damage as far as not powering the unit back up until it had completely dried out. However moisture may still have been absorbed by or shorted out some of the other components.

Of course, there isn't any way to know for sure without actually looking at and troubleshooting the unit. You can try looking very careful at the circuit board(s) to see if you can see any obvious signs of water damage or damaged components. If not, then you can try replacing the LCD screen and see what happens.

Best Regards,

    Hi again Rogue_45,

The low cost of consumer electronics combined with the high cost of repair services means that it often makes sense to simply replace a damaged MP3 player.

You have to weigh the cost of repairs versus the cost of a replacement as well as other costs involved. For example, if you are upgrading to a new model of MP3 player will you also need to replace any accessories you have that might not be compatible? If you have the unit repaired, is it liable to fail again and need another repair? How much value do you place on having a new one-year manufacturer's warranty? The decision is ultimately a personal one and often there is no clear correct answer.

I don't know the extent of the damage to the Zune or exactly how much a repair would cost. To determine the likely cost of repair, you should contact Zune support through their website:http://www.zune.net. Once you have that information you can make a more educated decision.

    Best Regards,

    Ken

Turn the Zune off, then push the left and up buttons as you keep it connected to the computer charger. That will hard reset the Zune. If it doesn't respond to the hard reset it is more likely you have motherboard issue, not a screen issue. Try to clean the corroded parts on the logic board. If that doesn't help, there are parts available on ebay, there is a zune repair guide that will show you how to replace the logic board.

What To Do if I Drop My Cell Phone in Water?

The small convenient size of cell phones unfortunately also makes these electronics accident-prone, especially when it comes to water. If you drop your cell phone in water it is often possible to salvage it. If you drop your cell phone in water, you may have only seconds to retrieve it, so you need to act fast even if it means retrieving it from the toilet!

The next thing to do if you drop your cell phone in water is to remove the battery immediately without even hesitating to turn off the power. Dry the batter with a towel and set aside to dry thoroughly. The battery itself may or may not work again, fortunately batteries can be replaced fairly inexpensively. Even if the battery does work, it is a good idea to get a new one.

After you have removed the battery, dry off the cell phone with an absorbent towel as best as you can. Use cotton swabs to soak up water in crevices and on any fragile, exposed circuits. It is also helpful to disassemble it if you can and let all the parts dry separately. Just be sure that you know how to put it back together. If it is a flip or sliding cell phone, leave it open.

If you drop your cell phone in a beverage or in salt water, rinse the phone off with fresh water once you have removed the battery. Once you drop the phone in water, the additional rinsing will not do further damage, however, minerals or other materials will.

If you drop your cell phone in liquid that isn’t pure water, you may want to try giving it an alcohol bath. The alcohol will displace minerals and microscopic substances as well as aiding in the evaporation of the fluid. If it is available, you should use an alcohol concentration of 95% rather than rubbing alcohol that usually contains only 70%.

Once your phone is clean, leave it in a warm dry area or near an air conditioner for three days before you attempt to replace the battery and turn it on. This is very important, because although you may think that you have thoroughly dried it, the slightest moisture can react with the battery and cause it to short circuit. If droped your cell phone in water, and want to save it, resist the temptation of turning it on to see if it is working until you have waited at least 72 hours.

Water damaged

It may have been recoverable, but you damaged it further when you tried to turn it on.

If you had fished it out immediately, removed the batteries, rinsed both camera and batteries in fresh water, and then let everything dry out thoroughly before even thinking about putting the batteries back in and turning it on, the camera MIGHT have worked.

Apparently you just shook it dry and tried to turn it on, right? If that's the case, you may as well give it a good funeral and get a new camera.

How do I restore my devices firmware for my zune 30gb

How to restore your Zune device software:------------
When you restore your Zune device software, the startup partition and the data partition are removed and rebuilt. In addition to removing the Zune device software, this process also erases all audio, videos, podcasts, and pictures that are stored on the Zune device.
Warning To restore the Zune device software, you must have a Windows-based computer that has an Internet connection. That computer must have the Zune software installed. And you must be able to connect the Zune device to a USB port on that computer by using a Zune Sync Cable. Do not perform the following steps if you do not have any one or more of these things immediately available.

After you start to restore the Zune device software, you cannot again use the device until you complete all the steps. You will not receive any confirmation or warning on the Zune device after you start the following procedure.

To restore the Zune device software, follow these steps:
1. Set the Hold Switch to unlocked.
2. Press and hold the Back button at the same time as you press and hold the top of the Zune Pad. When the Zune device begins to power up, release the buttons.
3. Immediately after you release the buttons in step 2, press and hold the following special button combination, depending on your Zune model:• If you have the 4GB Zune, the 8GB Zune, or the 80GB Zune, immediately press and hold the Back button at the same time as you press both the left side of the Zune Pad and the Play/Pause button. Continue to hold these buttons until your Zune device restarts and "Please wait" appears on the screen.
• If you have the 30GB Zune, immediately press and hold the Back button at the same time as you press both the left side of the Zune pad and the center of the Zune pad. Continue to hold these buttons until your Zune device restarts and "Please wait" appears on the screen.

Note "Clearing contents. Please wait" appears, followed by “Connect Zune to your PC."

4. After “Connect Zune to your PC” appears, connect the Zune device to the computer that has the current Zune software installed, and then update the device to the current Zune device software.

I dropped my phone in a sink full of water and

You may have done permanent damage by putting the battery back in too soon. Remove the battery and put the phone in a warm dry place and leave it for week to dry out internally. Maybe it will work after that but you're most likely looking at having to replace it.

My zune got wet it the washing machine how do i fix it myself

If it went through the wash, open everything you can and let it dry out for AT LEAST ONE WEEK. Water can get into a lot of areas that are hard to dry out. Since you already tried to turn it on, it might be destroyed.

Camera fell in water, wont work. It doesn't come on. How do i fix it?

be sure to take the battery out immediately after any electronic item gets wet...also check into the possibility of using alcohol, like rubbing alcohol of low water content to help dry....my brother used it on his cell (batter and sim card removed)..he dipped it and shook it out a couple times and let it dry....started to work fine....havent tried it myself tho...he is an electronics engineer and said water will cling to alcohol and alcohol is not bad for electronics...I am doing more checking on this
