Question about Sony SDM-HS73P 17" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Sony SDM-HS73 Monitor huts down after 15 seconds..

I know it's in the monitor itself.. probably a power transistor heating up and going out. Anyone know where to get parts or numbers to repair this problem????

Hi...there,
Well, open it up and look for the capacitors voltage (example 1000uf 16v). You can get it in any of your local electronic repair shop or radio shack.

My Sony monitor (SDM-HS73) won't stay on. I have to keep pushing the on/off button to get the monitor to stay on. The problem has become increasingly worse until the monitor won't stay on at all, but if I...

It can be the power supply/inverter board caps problem, but this 17" and 19" model are known for bad lamp assembly as you can see in my albums here: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/SONY/Sony%20SDM-HS73/

I will be just about impossible to get the board or lamp replace, cost too much.

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Sony sdm-hs73p LCD blacks out

Common problem in the HS73/93 is bad soldering works in the lamp assemblies, see my pictures here:
http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/Sony%20SDM-HS73/

But look for bad caps (leaking/bulging top) first in the power supply section.

Sony SDM HS73 ''turns off''

One thing I know for sure on this model HS73/HS93 is that the backlight assemblies failed due to poor soldering works. This may the problem with your monitor.

It is very time consuming repair works that I doubt very much if repair shop will do the work.

No input signal, go to power save sony sdm-hs93

I f you see the message on the screen indicating 'NO INPUR SIGNAL', you need to check the VGA cable and both ends of the connectors also. Try this monitor with other PC also.

This SDM-HS73/93 have common problem: bad backlight assemblies due to poor workmanship in sodlering works, see my pictures below. You should also inspect the caps. This is not recommend for DIY.

Hello!Sony SDM-HS73 power-inverter problem

At this point you may have bad transformers, bad tuning cap, you need to check the frequency of the inverter oscillator to see if both of them are running at the same frequency, the bad one may not be. The Inverter/power supply is not made by SONY, Powernet makes the board. Please see what went wrong with the one I fixed.
http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/Sony%20SDM-HS73/
One thing to keep in mind, when the board turn into carbon (blacken), it will conduct. The circuits operate at high voltage and high frequency.

the only thing you can do is look at the monitor settings on the monitor itself and in display properties. Try to adjust it there. Also double check the connections on both the pc and the monitor (loose burnt ect...) otherwise toss it

My monitor is doing the same thing, nice and bright for 1/2 a sec then goes super dull, you can barley see anything.

Thanks,

Sony Monitor ... SOMEONE HELP, please!

Thanks for your response. I actually sent my monitor out to guy that does LCD repairs for cheap. He changed out the video board and did repairs similar to yours but still couldn't get the monitor to work. After some more testing, he found that one of the chips that contained Sony's proprietary firmware had gone bad and said there really was no way to replace the chip. It definitely seems like we had the same problem, so I thought this information may help. I'm sorry that you paid so much for repairs that didn't solve the problem.
