After suffering through multiple failed reinstalls on a customer system, I finally checked the (newly bought) HP disk set only to find that not only were the old disks partly unreadable but the new ones also had random files unreadable.

I suggest you download a disk checking routine before you waste any more time.

This should do the trick.
CDs and DVDs are not the 'rock(s) of ages,' they can decay.
One mildly corrupt file can screw up subsequent operations.

Hi,
setup the computer with basic functioning items. tower-Graphics Card-Monitor-Mouse-Keyboard.
Unplug any un-necessary devices ** Printers-Scanners-USB Devices** et,c.
It,s a process of elimination. add devices once initial P.C Is setup. Dependant on Bios, you should get some beeps or error warning messages. I,d make a note of these if applicable, to make fault-finding easier to pin-point.

The device is the hard drive. What's happening is that the hard drive has a bad sector. It loads to the point of the bad sector, then can't continue. You need to replace the hard drive and you will be able to install Windows.

I have a problem with the uninstalling of Microsoft Office XP

Solution from Microsoft....
This problem is due to the choice of the option 'Install on first use' or due to an update of Microsoft Office (for Windows Update for example).

To remedy this, simply insert the disk for Microsoft Office version installed, or specify the location of files on the hard drive.

An alternative is to click Start, Control Panel, Add / Remove Programs.
Select Microsoft Office XP Professional with frontpage and click on Modify/ Continue, Select add/remove components, and then next.
Then the components to be installed appear, simply click update.

Windows XP SP2 Repair

Solution: Rename the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CATROOT2 folder to something such as catold to prevent WinXP's Setup program from locating the folder and halting the installation. If you are still in Setup, press SHIFT-F10 to launch a command prompt from within Setup. At the command prompt, type cd\win dows\System32 to open the System32 folder and then type rename CATROOT2 catold, press ENTER, restart the computer, and attempt the upgrade again.

If you cannot reach a command prompt from Setup, reboot the computer from a Win95, Win98, or WinMe startup disk and rename the folder from the command prompt. You can also launch a command prompt by booting from the WinXP installation CD and running the Recovery Console.

I have misplaced the recovery CD for Sharp Actius RD3D PC Notebook and I need to re-install the Operating System, so I requires Drivers for its hardware components, Also if possible an another official...

You do not need the CD to recover this laptop.

From the User Manual:

1. Turn on your computer. When the message <F2> to enter System Configuration
Utility appears on the bottom left of the screen, press F2. Then, the Setup Utility
will open.
2. In the Exit menu, select Load Setup Defaults; then, press Enter twice.
3. In the Exit menu, confirm Exit Saving Changes is highlighted and press Enter
twice.
4. The system will restart. When the message Press F10 to Recover appears on the
screen, press F10.
5. Read the message on the screen, and select the way to recover your system; then,
press Enter. If you selected Formats hard disk and creates new partition, go to
the next step. Otherwise, go to Step 10.
6. Select the volume of C: drive and press Enter.
7. Read the message and select Continue; then, press Enter. The formatting and reinstallation
will start.
Although the pointer may be shown on the screen, never touch the
keyboard or the mouse during recovery except when the message prompts
you to. If you touch them, the re-installation will be canceled.
8. When the re-installation process is completed, the system will restart
automatically.
9. Set up Windows XP by following the on-screen instructions. When you complete
the Windows setup, make sure to set date and time.

If you need help understanding these instructions, feel free to ask.

Re-installing xp

A cyclic redundancy check (CRC error) is an error checking program that is used to verify data and can be caused by hardware or software. The most common causes are bad CD disk, hard drive or memory. To run diagnostics press and hold the <Fn> key while powering the system on. This will run the Dell Diagnostics. Examine the Windows CD and see if there are any scratches or smudges on the media, try another CD disk if you have one.

Problem installing windows XP

This is going to be either a bad disc or a bad hard drive. Do a hard drive test in the bios, if any part of it fails, then you will need to replace the hard drive. If the hard drive passes, then try a different operating system disc.
