i have the same problem .my am seems to be totaly useless now, i used it for a while as a webcam, then i tried for ages to transfer my video's to my computer, but it was only saving a few minutes and shutting off.
for ages i just thought it was my computer r sofware was not accepting it, but when i used my cam on my next holiday, it would only record a few minutes also.
it is really annoying because up until this time it has been a great camera.
now i am left in a position where i have lots of memories of holidays and events that are on mini dv and now i cant even watch them.
any help would be greatly appreciated

when i switch the unit on the LED light comes on but as soon as i put load on, it shuts down (ie if i try to play or record it stops) I have tried a new tape in but thats no good.
