Okay hey everyone. The MN-700 is no good for me. I
exchanged the first one for another one at BestBuy exact
same model. I get the same problem. I use PPPoE and when
I get connected to the net through the Router I lose
connection to NET and the Router after 2 minutes. The
only way for me to tap back into the router is to power
the router down. I have two wired computers. One using
Windows 2k, the other XP Pro SP1. I have tried
everything. I even called MS support. Talked for 2 hours
they did everything they could, but they were baffled as
well. Now if I don't connect to the Net I can access all
of the LAN stuff fine. But when I get connected to the
net on there or set up the WAN and it gets connected I
lose connection to everything after 2 minutes. I have SBC
Yahoo DSL I got all there settings correct cause I can
connect for like 2 minutes before everything becomes
inactive.

having all MS network would be error proof, man was I
wrong. it's nice to know i'm not the only one with this
problem.
I've been on the phone with tech support and for them to
tell me to just leave the setting as default is crazy.

up disabled and it was on WEP before. Also on my XP
machine I unchecked that 802.x authentication box. I am
taking it back this morning and I am going to order the
Netgear Wireless G Router tonight off of Amazon.com.
Give them a try then I will tell you if I get it
working. Some guy said he changed the idle time to 999
minutes under his settings and it seemed to work for
him. I don't think I would have to do that. I am just
going to take this MN-700 back and get my money back.
Thanks,
Shemp

Microsoft MN-700 router problem with PPPoE and WAN
I have just purchased the Microsoft 802.11g WIFI 4 port router.. works
fine with WIFI card that came with the box or with another 802.11b
WIFI card, but when using one of the 4 ports on the back of the router
over the LAN.. i'm able to hit a page and it starts to download and
then gets stuck. The Router then will not communicate to the ALLTEL
DSL modem. I have to physically reset the MN-700 in order to
communicate again over the internet.

Have you turned off 802.1x authentication?
1.. Right-click the wireless connection, and then click Properties.
2.. Click the Wireless Networks tab.
3.. Select the network name in the Preferred networks window, and
then click Properties.
4.. Select the Authentication tab.
5.. Make sure that the check box for authentication is not selected.

latter, you're not going to get anywhere. With WPA, any machine on your LAN
must authenticate with the passcode in order to use encryption and access
the Internet.

has to be the router; for a year I used a Linksys BEFW11S4 router with no
such problems, and I'm no slouch when it comes to SOHO LAN setups.
