What works on one channel? Thanks

  • Anonymous Dec 15, 2010

Sorry, it is a Goodmans 120 stereo amplifier, and it plays sound through one speaker only. I have no knowledge/expertise in electronics save for establishing that three fuses needed replacing, but having done so the replacement fuses (two 630mA and one 2A slow blow fuses) have blown again. I only wish to know if the amplifier which is ~30 yrs old is worth repairing. Thanks.

Disconnect the dead channels speaker connection at the Amplifier, if the short goes away then you have a shorted speaker voice coil or wiring to speaker, if still blows the fuses you have an output Transistor circuit that is shorted, and the Amplifier will need to go to a qualified home electronics repair shop for testing and repair, be advised the average cost can exceed $100+

Klh subwoofer keeps blowing it's fuse.

Most likely the amp in the sub has blown. It will need repair or replacement. I'd take it to an expert in repairing amps, it's not a job for you unless you're experienced in troubleshooting these things.

Both 8 amp fuses blown

Disconnect the speakers and replace the fuses with the proper specs ONE time and hope. Amps only have so many lives. If it blows them again take it to a tech to get fixed.

Otherwise, if it survived evaluate what you know about the event that blew the fuses and try not to repeat it.

Attach ONE speaker to one channel and see how that works out; then the other. You may have just blown the speakers or they may cause the fuses to blow again.

I currently own a Klipsch promedia 2.1 computor speaker system. However, the fuse blew and i can not find the specific fuse i need anywhere. The web site says that i just need a standard 2A 250V slow blo...

Have you used 2A SLOW BLOW fuse? This type of fuses usually are ceramic type and are very different with the glass type ones. The glass type fuses are (more or less) fast blow. Although the best solution is to find SLOW BLOW fuses like this, in case it's very difficult you can use 3A fast blow fuse also.

In case of a problem or clarification, don't hesitate to post me a reply before rejecting my answer.

Blew a fuse what kind dose it take is it a slow blow fuse or fast blow one,i took out the old fuse and it reads le.3a/250v is it a 3a or .3a

It is a 3A/250V fuse, also known as a 6A/125V fuse.

Power amps generally have slow blow fuses.

I replaced blown fuse with AUSTRALUX DA205-2A 2A 250V fuse for my Vox AC30cc2x. It blew after a couple of minutes in warmup mode. Have I used the correct fuse?

It's drawing too much current, make sure you install the excact replacement or an alternative approved replacement. Other than that, if it's still blowing the fuse than theres an overcurrent condition in the system...meaning a short.

Can't find 2A 125v fuse replacement for on-off will 250v be OK?

There is no difference between a 125v and 250v fuse. The most important thing is the 2Amp. This fuse is probably the line fuse and could be the only trouble and may have blow with a line surge. Make sure the 2A you use is a Fast Blow Type. If it does blow again you most likely have a internal power supply failure.

Blown fuse

You can try a slow blow fuse, but more than likely there is some other issue in the unit that is drawing too much current. By no means would you want to increase the amperage of the fuse. it could cause a fire.

Power Light off & speaker not working

I had the same problem. The screws around the perimeter of the back plate must be unscrewed and the plate must be pried off as it is glued to the box. When replacing my fuse, 2A 5x20 GMA, it blew the fuse again. Disconnecting the second circuit board prevented the next fuse from blowing, but now the question is what is wrong with the circuit board? I cannot see any damage or shorts.
