Question about Mitsubishi VS-6043 60" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Flyback A local tv repairman said my tv needs a flyback but could not find any where to order or get the parts from. Could there be a different type brand of flyback that would be compatible and perhaps could fix the problem? I have a VS-6043, "60" , bought is 1996.

Some of these parts are no longer available. The manufacturers are only required (by law) to have replacement parts for 5 years. If the set is popular enough, some parts will be available generically. I will look up your model to get the part number and try to locate one for you.

Cannot Find Flyback Transformer 60PP9202/17F

Contact Philips directly. They should be able to get you the part, even if they have to get it from another repair shops. Many repair shops purchase their parts from factory authorized distributors, not from the manufacturer. The flyback transformer powers the tube-it can be extremely dangerous to work on-EVEN with the tv off, they contain a lot of power somethjing like 50,000 to 150,00 volts. It is not fun getting shocked by one of these as many techs have been knocked unconcious by them. If you do not know the proper procedure to discharge a flyback then leave it alone!

Need to replace the flyback (transformer) is it

good morning friend. it is not very complicated to fix, but it is far more better to allow someone with experience to solve this problem. there will be excess solder on the bottom of the circuit board the connects the flyback. you must desolder this in order to remove it. you need to have a mesh desolder wick in order to completely remove the solder. go over each eyelet( pins from flyback) as many times it take to completely clean it. follow the cords to their different destination and unplug them. write down each location and what you did and go into the reverse order. thank you and pleasew rate my solution.

Flyback is shot. Repairman says part is no longer made. True??

Well, I thought I could look up a replacement if you really wanted one. To answer your question, the original part is probably no longer available from the manufacturer. This is especially true for a small TV where the replacement cost for the whole set is pretty low. But if the set was a popular model or used the same chassis as enough other models, a replacement flyback might be available. So the tech was probably right.

Well, I'm assumig you've already attempted just turning it off and letting it sit for a few hours. I would also recommend unplugging it and letting it sit for a few hours before plugging it back in and turning it back on. These TV's have this problem fairly often, and it's normally a result of a bad flyback transformer, which is a part you need to order from the manufacturer. I would advise having a licensed repairman replace the part, because it is fairly difficult. Even with practice, things can still be broken.
The flyback transformer is the component that generates the large amount of voltage required to drive a CRT. If you decide to replace this component yourself, order service manual #7566 from Philips - it will give you a lot of schematics and tips that are very useful.
