Where can I get instructions to put unidentified tower together?

You have all the pieces .. motherboard .. cpu .. ram .... heatsink/cpu fan?

Place the cpu into the motherboard socket. Note that it only fits one way. Check the pins on the cpu against the holes in the socket. Hold it in place with the securing catch/lever that you will see on the side.

Smear some heatsink/cpu paste onto the top of the cpu. The heatsink paste is basically a 'heat resistant glue'

Put the cpu cooling fan onto the cpu and screw it into position. Or, it may have a securing lever to hold it in place.

Put the RAM into the ram slots. They only fit one way. Make sure they are firmly in place.

Put the motherboard into the casing. Align what holes you can and use the screws that come with the casing to secure the motherboard.

Connect the casing power supply to the motherboard. Note that it only fits one way.

Connect the cpu cooling fan to the motherboard connector. It only fits one way ..

Next, look at the leads that are just lying loose .. the small female 2 pin connectors will be marked 'PWR' ..'LED'..'RESTART' ... There maybe 8 of them.

On the motherboard identify the block of male 2 pin connectors. The female connectors must connect to them. You'll need good eyes and probably a flashlight, as the writing on the motherboard is small..

If you are connecting a sata hard drive, connect to the motherboard connection that says 0. Connect your dvd drive to '1' Again, notice that sata leads can only fit one way.

Then connect any video or sound cards to the motherboard (if any).
Just look on the motherboard for anywhere the connecting wires will attach. You won't go far wrong.

The casing won't come with instructions of 'what to do' as such. If there were instructions there it would relate to pin/hard drive connections.

What you CAN do is a google search. If, for example, your motherboard is an ASUS 123456 .. search for 'ASUS 123456 motherboard connections'. Or log onto the motherboard manufacturer's website ..

On-Board VGA Drivers

Which model Asus computer do you have? The drivers depend on the motherboard/cpu inside the computer. Many of the newest Intel and AMD processors have their video graphics unit as part of the processor. In that case, you need the graphics driver for the CPU. (Some of the Intel i3, i5 and i7 second and third generation processors have on-the-CPU VGA. If the CPU isn't one with the on-board VGA, the motherboard video ports will be disabled. You will need an external video card with those models.)

Start at http://www.asus.com and search for the model; then look at the Downloads tab. Expand the section marked VGA to get the driver.

If you add a comment with the model number of the computer, I'll be glad to point you to the correct driver.

Is ABIT SG-71 a Pentium 4 motherboard and what are the specs, the does and donts

The ABIT SG-71 is an Intel Socket 478 that could take a Pentium 4 or Celeron CPU (533/400MHz) designed for the 478 socket. It could support up to 2 GB of DDR 333 memory.

This motherboard may not be worth putting in a new CPU; it is over 10 year old technology. It's very old and slow compared to even two year old CPU and motherboard options.

Cindy Wells
(if you do want to replace the CPU, remove the old hardware. Use extreme care not to bend any pins on the CPU. Add new thermal paste to the top of the CPU and then put on the heatsink. Connect the CPU fan to the CPU fan header.)

Hi James,

Your best bet will be to visit the Asus website and click on the 'support' tab at the top of the screen. Select the link for 'drivers' and specify your motherboard model. It's possible that there will be a BIOS update for your Asus m/board.
If so, do a BIOS flash and check if your PC will then accept your new CPU. NB! Take care when flashing the BIOS. Make sure there are no power interruptions etc. while performing this procedure as this could corrupt your BIOS software and render your motherboard useless.

Feel free to message me should you need more details or further assistance.
Best wishes,
Graemevm

I am planning to buy desktop with i3 processor, I want to know whether intel original motherboard will be best for i3 or Asus or some other brand i can look for.(please suggest). Also which intel's...

You normally cannot swap later model CPU chip to an older motherboard. It is best to purchase a motherboard with a matching CPU and RAM. What you should be looking at is the specification of the motherboard and the built-in devices on the motherboard that suits your computing requirements.
A motherboard for high performance gaming is different for one just for Internet and e-mail requirements. Then select one or more well known motherboard manufacturer and check their various models.
My preferences are Gigabyte, MSI, and Intel.

Motherboard info
Yes it'll work. Worst case scenario is that you will need to do a bios update. Overheat should not be a problem if you are using the intel reference cooler wich is provided with the cpu.

Re seat your RAM and any other cards that plug into the Mother Board such as PCI cards then try starting the computer again. If that doesn't fix it, then you can uninstall devices and try to boot until you find the culprit, as those beeps you hear sound like hardware error beeps that can be caused by faulty hardware (even keyboards or mice) that plug into your computer. Eliminating all removable hardware should help you determine whether it's an add on component or if the Mother Board itself is bad.
Good luck
