Printer won't scan because it's out of ink

Unfortunately, all-in-one printers are printers/copiers. The scan to a computer function is a secondary function and the unit has interlocks to keep it from being damaged when the ink is out. There is a way to print with only one ink cartridge in place but this only allows print jobs from the computer. The copy and scan functions are locked. For details, see http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01673672&tmp_task=solveCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=3742086#N2374 . See the section on Ink Level Indicator (!) and the bottom notch of the indicator blink fast and the Workaround: Print in ink-backup mode

You need a stand-alone scanner if you routinely want to scan to your computer without a printer ink level OK status report.

I wish that I had better news for you.

Kodak esp 9 printer is out of black ink, meanwhile all i want it to do is scan a paper and it wont do anything without new ink. The computer says the printer is busy, and the printer just says "error...

This is a common problem encountered by printer users and is in fact not a bug but considered a feature by manufacturers who build this function into printers to encourage consumers to buy their expensive ink cartridges. To fix this problem I would buy a 3rd party ink cartridge for use when your ink cartridge is empty. This way you can use your scanner when out of ink (be careful printing with 3rd party ink cartridges, many have mangled or destroyed their printers by using non OEM ink).

My printer wont let me scan photos, because ink has expired, dont want to use the printer. Wont let me scan?

Unfortunately, this all-in-one won't let you do anything if the printer part doesn't work. So if the ink cartridges are empty, you can't do anything else with it. That's how it's made, and can't be made to work any other way. If all you want is to scan, you'll need to get a stand-alone scanner or put new ink in the printer.

The short Question Is there a way for me to scan without ink on my MP610? The descriptive question. I have a Cannon Mp610. I previously had success scanning by installing the drivers and the software but...

if the printer will let you run it without an error for the ink, than yes, scan to your pc. usually if you look there is an ink sensor like a button in a washing maching that allows it to spin only when the lid is closed, you follow me...anyway if you can find it sometimes you can fool the printer into thinking it has ink. other than that, if it wont let you than there isnt any way other than to get ink. this is why i always frown on buying the cute all in ones because if something goes, the whole thing goes.

Refill ink.

First understand, that your Laserjet uses toner, not ink. Usually, the best answer is to purchase a replacement toner cartridge. I buy from the aftermarket, as the HP brand can be expensive. I think this is your best solution.

Epson RX600 will not scan or nuthin' with empty ink cartridges

I cannot help about the Printing problem, because it seems it needs to have all the catridges with some ink to Print. But i can help you about the scan problem.I was having the same issue as you and gave up trying to print, but when i needed to scan i realized the printer didnt let me touch any of the buttons, repeating the same message "change catridge".If you use the EPSON SCAN application that comes with the printer, it lets you scan directly from the PC. It takes longer, dont know why, but at least it scans.I hope it helps.
