CD/DVD drivers deleted from registry?

Hi! Recently purchased a toshiba laptop from best buy and while trying to delete a program, we think the CD/DVD drivers got deleted. Now the pc is not showing the CD drive, even when a disc is put in it. Is there something we can do from home to fix this or do you recommend taking up to our nearest geek squad? Thanks for any help you can give us!!

Dvd driver of toshiba

THere is no need to get DVD drivers as they are included in standard windows package and are integrated.
In case you have windows Vista installed and dVD is with exclamation mark in Device manager you jut need to delete upper and lower filters in regestry.

Step 1: Start Registry Editor
Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK. Registry Editor starts. (In Vista, right-click Registry Editor, and select Run as Administrator)

Step 2: Delete the UpperFilters registry entry
In Registry Editor, expand My Computer, and then expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
Expand SYSTEM, and then expand CurrentControlSet.
Expand Control, and then expand Class.
Under Class, click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
In the right pane (topic area), click UpperFilters.
Note An UpperFilters.bak registry entry may also appear. To delete the UpperFilters registry entry, you must click UpperFilters and not UpperFilters.bak.
On the Edit menu, click Delete.
When you receive the following message, click Yes to confirm the deletion of the UpperFilters registry entry:
Are you sure you want to delete this value?
The UpperFilters registry entry is removed from the {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} registry subkey.
Note Do not exit Registry Editor. You must have this program for the next step.

Step 3: Delete the LowerFilters registry entry
In Registry Editor, expand My Computer, and then expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
Expand SYSTEM, and then expand CurrentControlSet.
Expand Control, and then expand Class.
Under Class, click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
In the right pane (topic area), click LowerFilters.
Note An LowerFilters.bak registry entry may also appear.
To delete the LowerFilters registry entry, you must click LowerFilters and not LowerFilters.bak.
On the Edit menu, click Delete.
When you receive the following message, click Yes to confirm the deletion of the LowerFilters registry entry:
Are you sure you want to delete this value?
The LowerFilters registry entry is removed from the {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} registry subkey.
Exit Registry Editor.
Step 4: Restart the computer
Important: If a CD recording program no longer works after you restart the computer, you must reinstall the CD recording program.

Matshita DVD-Rom in my Lenovo 3000 N100 is not detectable.

Note Before you use this method, uninstall all CD or DVD writing or recording programs. Guided Help can delete the corrupted registry entries for you. However, deleting those registry entries might cause problems with any other CD or DVD writing or recording programs that are installed on your computer. Uninstalling these programs before you start will help you avoid any problems that removing the registry entries might cause. You can reinstall these programs after the problem is resolved.

1. Start the Registry Editor.
- Click on Start -> Run. Type regedit.
2. On the Registry Editor, expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
3. Expand System then expand CurrentControlSet
4. Expand Control then expand Class
5. Under Class, click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
6. Look for UpperFilters and LowerFilters.
- You might only find one of them, just delete it.
7. Just hit yes on "Are you sure you want to delete this value?"

Restart your computer. After you have done this, try to access the CD or DVD drive. If you can access the CD or DVD drive, and if you do not receive an error message, the problem is resolved. You can reinstall your CD or DVD writing or recording software.

If this is helpful, would appreciate if you rate this.

Thanks, ArnWuLF.

I recently lost my CD/DVD drive when I (correctly) uninstalled a Roxio application from my Toshiba laptop. After a week of frustration, I finally found the fix. My CD/DVD drive is back!

Go to the Windows START menu.
Click on RUN and enter: regedit

FOLLOW THIS TREE:
Registry Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class

In the CLASS folder, look for:
Key Name: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Value Data: [Delete All Value Data from UpperFilters and LowerFilters] You will see the upper and lower filters folders once you get to the end of the tree… *\*\*\control\class
If a backup folder for either the upper or lower filter folders shows up, clear all the data from these folders as well.

Note: Do not delete the Key or the Multi-String Values. Delete only the data values.
Exit Registry and Reboot

Try to get an Windows XP or Vista CD.

Boot the computer with the cd on drive.

Be sure to select to boot from CD in setup(F2 key I think) or boot menu (F9 key I think)

If the computer boot from CD, probably you have a software problem, else your drive is damaged.

Good luck.
