I have a casio fx-7400g and I need to be able to solve equations for 'x'. Example: x-squared -1 = y; I need to be able to find the roots by putting zero in for 'y'. Does anybody know how to do this?

Hi Sheryl, hi Bill,
I don't have an casio fx-7400g.
I think you have the following Problem with this root:
first, you should write x^-1 = 1/x now it's easyer to see the problem
and maybe you will see that for x=0 y=1/0 is a problem
Could your calc plot this function? Yes, do it. In the plot you will see something like that:
y ^ | : | . | .. | ..... -----------+-----------> ...... | x .. | . | : |
x=0 y=infinite x=+1 y=1 x=-1 y=-1 x->+infinite y=0 x->-infinite y=0 Your roots are in an infinite space :-)
I don't know if the casio was able to calculate limits? In the plot you can see there is y=-infinite for x=0 left-limit and y=+infinite for x=0 right-limit
regards, Michael
