Hooking up to docking station

If I hooked up the belkin wireless router directly to the laptop docking station, would I then be able to unhook the computer, take it across the room and connect wirelessly?

No, the laptop will have to have a wireless adaptor on it or in it to connect. The docking station is only good when the computer is hooked into it.

My internet is greatly reduced with Belkin N1 vision wireless (before the hook-up it was 15mbps now only 5mbps), I have tested by hooking directly from the modem to the computer and got 15mbps. Before N1,...

When you only get 5 mbps are you connecting to the new router wirelessly or via the ethernet cable? If it is wirelessly then try connecting with an ethernet cable and see if you still get 5 mbps. If so then try resetting the router (the procedures for this will be explained in the manual) and re-test. Wireless connections can slow down due to obstacles such as thick walls or other obstacles of that type. If all else fails return the unit and try another.

How do you hook up the laptop to the docking station?

You should be able to hook up the laptop using a common audio cable, one end hooking up to the audio-in port in the docking station, and the other end hooking up to the audio port in the laptop.

My Belkin router not working...?

You've not given enough information to receive a straightforward answer. I assume your problem is that you can't connect to your Belkin router, and that you are trying to connect wirelessly? When you do a site survey (that is, when you click your little antenna icon to 'View Wireless Networks' in the area), do you see anything?

A common problem with wireless on laptops is that the user will accidentally turn it off without realizing. There's usually a switch on the side of the laptop that'll turn on or off your onboard wireless (to save on battery power). Switching that will often resolve the issue.

Wireless router

The answer to both your questions is yes. The laptop and the 98 does not care what router they are pluged into, the settings on them will not be affected. Only if you change the adaptors on the the 98 or your XP's will the 98 or XP need any adjustment. (unless you change the WEP key, then it is just a matter of putting the new WEP key in the xp and 98 machines.)
