Remove the card, slide the lock switch back and forth
several times to clear any dust off the contacts. Unlock
the card, then try it again.
Can the camera read the card? Is there anything on it?
Can the camera re-format/erase it?

Can you plug the memory card into a laptop, either directly,
or by using an adapter for the PCMCIA slot, and test it?

On my laptop, the card mounts as if it were a hard-drive,
with a drive letter. I can then browse through it, using
Windows explorer.

Once (if) the card is detected by the PC, open up MyComputer,
and click on:

VIEW --> DETAILS.

This should show you additional columns with hard-drive
information.

1) Check to see how big the memory card is (or detects)

How much room is left ?!

2) How is it formatted: FAT-16, FAT-32, NTFS

3) If the card is NTFS (not likely) make sure you
set the root security settings:

Righ click on the SD memory drive letter:

---> Properties ----> Security ----> Add ---> Everyone

Then set the EVERYONE's access level to FULL CONTROL

If you get an error message, stating that you are not
authorized to view or change the security settings for
this device, go into advanced security settings, and
take ownership of the device. Then exit and try again.

(You need to have an administrator priv's account to do this)

4) Try to browse the memory card, do you see any files ?

5) Try to copy them to your computer ?

6) Was the memory card full ? --> clear it, delete files

7) Can you reformat the memory card ?

Right click ---> format ---> accept any default settings

8) On you icon tray bar, look for a green arrow icon:

Click safely remove drive....

Wait for Windows to properly finalize and the drive
(memory module) and then remove it from the PC

9) If you do not own a laptop, take the card back to the store,
where you bought it, and ask them to try to recover any
pictures or files that may be on it, and then clear and
reformat it.

10) At this point, if the card will not function, it is time to
purchase another one.

11) Flash memory cards will fail after a limited number of
read/write cycles, due to internal degradation
with use. Unlike most other electronics, these chips have
a finite life (erase/write) cycles.

12) Don't overlook an "lock" or protection settings implemented
by the camera, to protect you from you :)

The camera could be simply telling you that there are
forgotten pictures on this stick and you cannot
over-write them unless you unlock the card first.

Password protected?
Encrypted ?

Good luck.

SD Card Problems with Vivitar Vivicam 5118!

What size is the memory card. If it's larger than 4GB then it won't work in the 5118.
Try using another card. Don't format it in your computer but do format it in the camera before trying to take pictures.

My camera won't let me take any pictures or look at them. Everytime I turn it on it says memory card error, card locked. i've tried moving the locked switch on the side of the card up and down but that...

Okay I think there is a sequence of errors that have happened.
According to my specification of your camera it works with an XD Picture Card NOT an SD card.
First I'm going to assume you put a new memory card in your camera to take the pictures of your "Art GCSE" If this is so then the card needed formatted to the camera (your camera manual may call this initializing) and you have inserted the correct card type. Also the maximum size of the XD card that can be used in your camera is a 512MB. Again if this was the case the camera wouldn't "see" the memory card. I'm sure the camera would have malfunctioned before you started taking your project pictures given warnings or shut down. Can you turn on the camera and see your pictures in the "Play Back" mode? Are you sure you have listed the correct camera make and model. It sounds to me as if we are talking two different cameras here because the XD Memory Card doesn't have a lock the SD memory card does The SD memory card doesn't fit in your Fuji FinePix A350 camera Also the camera you have listed here doesn't have an internal memory it has to work with a memory card Just below here is a link to a PDF Manual

Can you put the memory card that you feel has the pictures on it and use the camera Play Back mode and see pictures?

Hello my camera doesnt accept hp 4gb sdhc card.when i placed card in, it says card error.... Also,i cant format when sd card is in and ''card error'' on screen...(my sd cards are brand new) plese give...

Okay we have a problem, to properly answer this question "we" collectively need to know what make and model the camera is. However one clue to your problem was that you said SDHC and 4gb.

I'm going to give you a diagram on the SD card type lock make sure it's in the correct position (not locked) Also the SDHC is a newer style memory card and 4 gig is a ton of memory for point and shoot cameras.

If the card lock thing doesn't work and you still can't format then I'm going to say that your camera can't handle the memory capacity of the 4gig SDHC memory card.

Don't panic yet, you may be able to go onto the camera manufactorers web site sift through the models and find the firmware updates for your camera. Updating to new firmware editions could open the possibilities of using a larger card.
Here is the diagram hope this is all that is needed.

My samsung s1065 camera is saying "card locked "i have not put a code or anything in it so i dont know why its locked an i cannot take any photos or anything

Remove the SD memory card from the camera. Look for the lock switch on the memory card and slide it away from the "lock" position. Re-insert the SD card and all should be well.

SD stands for Secure Digital and was one of the first memory cards to have a physical security lock to protect your data.

When i try to take pictures my camera says card locked.

It's the memory card or SD card you have in the camera. (it sounds like)
Try taking the SD card out and if you look at it closely there is a little switch/ thing you can slide. Slide it to the other side, put it back in your camera and try again. Hope that helps

Memory is locked on the camera

ok so on sd cards there's a slider on the side of it. this has an arrow (usually pointing down) that says lock next to it. make sure the slider isn't on the side that the arrow points to.
hope this helps ;-)

Memory card locked

pull the SD card from the the slot and it right side up with the label facing you, there is a short slot on the side with a sliding switch. move it to the other side of the slot and that will unlock the card. (it probably go moved as your were putting the card back into your camera) good luck!

SD memory cards

Has another SD Card worked? is this the first you card you tried?
Be sure you have the correct type (size) SD card, there a couple of SD card types, micro (very small, etc.). It should go in only one way, does it fit and install easily? It should SNAP into placye.
A SD card is supposed to ONLY GO IN ONE WAY, the correct way.
It should SNAP in. Try to insert it in a different way very carfully.

Memory card is write protected

thought the cards have a little tab on them so they can be "write protected" it is a little plastic tab on the side of the memory1.gif card you slide up and down. I know most SD cards1.gif have it, CF cards dont so if its anything besides SD memory its probobly the memory card or some little switch or somthing in the camera that tells the camera when the card is in the "Locked" or "Write protected" mode.

Looking at my SD memory cards1.gif they have a little arrow on the edge and they say "Lock" pointing down, the slider is up. Move yours both ways, maybe it has a bad connection in the card (im not sure what it actualy does) or its in a position the camera thinks its locked?

No pictures when SD disk is out of camera

Before you do anything else find a friend who's camera takes the same memory card and try it in their camera. If it doesn't work there try cleaning the contacts gently with a pencil eraser (make sure you remove any rubber pieces left behind) There is a locking mechanism on the side of the SD card. Make sure this isn't locked. If everything still fails it looks like you could have a faulty SD card. Borrow one to try to see if the fault in the camera disappears. This camera has 32 MB of internal memory. Are you sure your pictures aren't being stored there. Read your manual and you can find out how to transfer them to the SD card once you've proved the card is working. Also check your SD card in a card reader and if there's still any problems pop it back into the camera and format it. BMW
