It sounds like the bearing in the actual fan has gone also could be all dried out with no grease to run on if u no how to regrease them it should be fine other wise dont risk your life and have a new one installed can be dangerious if it
breaks and falls

The fan is making a "scratching" noise.

Hi steffmarin...
The scratching noise is one of two problems.
1.noisy fan bearings, cannot be lubricated, must be replaced (big job), or replace fan....
2. Plastic/rubber bearing up near the ceiling...the fan will be connected to it.
Sometimes when they get dry they get noisy.
You can spray the plastic/rubber bearing with a little WD-40 and it will hold the noise quite for a while...be sure to "wiggle" the fan around after spraying to distribute the WD-40) evenly.
If your noise problem is this then problem solved.

Casablance fan started running on only one speed and then stopped running at all. Can it be fixed or would it be cheaper to replace it?

IT SOUNDS LIKE THE MOTOR IS BURNT OUT BUT FIRST ALL WIRE CONNECTIONS ARE GOOD IF SO THEN IT WOULD BE CHEAPER IN THE LONG RUN .

Hampton bay fan makes squeeking noise

If the fan is fairly new, remove it and return it to Home Depot. It is almost certainly something that has fallen down into the motor and is rubbing loudly enough to make a squeak as the fan runs faster.

The fan itself has sealed lubrication and you don't have to lubricate it.
