Hi Bruce, dont know if i can be much help but will offer the following advice. although it sounds like that the phone has been locked to an alternative network to your sim card, if this is the case then you will have to buy a sim card for the same network as the phone, but i assume you have thought of that, you could try cleaning the sim and contacts in the phone with soft cloth, alternatively, put sim back in the old phone and call your service provider and explain the problem, they should have you up and running in no time. hope this helps, i cant think of anything else, if i do i'll be in touch.
