This varies from laptop to laptop, when new a it should not run less than one hour (that is with heavy use), I have seen some brands run as long as 3 hours (top end models)

I hav charging problem wit my hp laptop

I'll need to know more information if I'm to diagnose your problem, but I think your battery may have been exhausted. Rechargeable batteries, including laptop batteries, have a limited lifespan and, after many charge/discharge cycles, cease to be able to hold a charge.
If this is the case, you should replace your battery, and conduct normal battery conditioning- charge the battery up fully, then remove the power cable and allow the laptop to drain the battery. When the laptop goes into hibernation mode, leave it for a few hours until the battery is completely drained. Then, plug the laptop in again and allow it to charge up fully. This process should be repeated monthly in order to ensure a long battery life.

Taking Care Of Your Laptop Battery

  1. Normally, a new battery pack comes in a very low charge condition and must be fully charged before use. Refer to the user manual of your portable electronic equipment for charging instructions.
  2. A new Dell Vostro A860 Battery needs to be fully charged and fully discharged or “cycled” as much as five times to condition them into performing at full capacity.
  3. Your equipment may report a fully charge condition in as short as 10 to 15 minutes when the new Dell Vostro 1015 Battery is being charged for the first time. This is a normal phenomenon especially for Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cad) and Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) chemistries. When this happens, remove the dell vostro 1015 battery pack and let it cool down for about fifteen minutes then repeat the charging procedure.
  4. “Conditioning” (fully discharging and then fully charging) is necessary so as to maintain the optimum performance of a sony vgp-bps8 battery, and is recommended at least once a month particularly for Ni-Cad and Ni-MH batteries. Failure to do so could result in reduced charge capacity and can significantly shorten the sony vaio vgn-fz battery pack’s useful life. Lithium Ion batteries do not require conditioning.
  5. It is normal for a acer aspire 1410 battery pack to get warm when charging and during use. However, if the acer aspire 1410 battery pack gets excessive hot, there may be a problem with the portable electronic equipment’s charging circuit and should therefore be checked by a qualified technician.
  6. Rechargeable batteries undergo self-discharging when left unused for long periods of time. This is normal particularly in the case of Ni-MH and Li-Ion chemistries. For best results, always store a battery pack fully charged. It should be removed from the equipment and kept in a cool, dry and clean place.
  7. The amount of runtime a hp 510 battery produces depends on the power requirements of components in your electronic equipment. This could be the hard drive setting, screen intensity and back-lighting on notebook computers, the liquid crystal display (LCD) screen and floodlight feature in a video camcorder, or the tri-mode communications network of a cellular phone. Always refer to your equipment’s user manual for power management settings.

How to calibrate battery laptop toshiba satellite m45-s359

Calibrate laptop battery pack under the following conditions:
? When the battery status display seems inaccurate.
? When you observe a significant change in normal batteryrun time.
? When the battery pack has not been used for one monthor more.
How to Calibrate laptop battery
To Calibrate laptop battery pack, you must fully charge, fullydischarge, and then fully recharge the battery pack.

Discharging the Battery Pack Disabling Hibernation
To fully discharge the battery pack, disable Hibernation temporarily.
To disable Hibernation:
? Select the Power Meter icon on the taskbar or access Power Options > Hibernate, and clear the Enable Hibernate support check box.

To fully discharge the battery pack:
  1. Select the Power Meter icon on the taskbar, or select Start > Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > Power Options > Power Schemes.
  2. Write down the 3 settings in the Plugged In column and the
  3. settings in the Running on Batteries column, so you can reset them after calibration.
  4. Select the drop-down lists and set all 6 options in both columns to Never.

I have a Dell XPS M1210 laptop for which I have just purchased a new 9-cell compatible battery. It worked great for a couple of hours, but now shuts off immediately when unplugged from the AC power supply....

You might want to try what I did when I had a completely discharged battery for my Dell Laptop. I attached the battery to the computer, make sure the computer is off and plug in the charger for a full twenty four hours (undisturbed). And this really worked. I had no problems with the battery. Good luck.

How to charge your laptop battery properly? During the the process of notebook...

How to charge your laptop battery properly? solarroll-laptop-solar-charger.jpg During the the process of notebook using, we need no to deliberately charge the laptop battery to 100% state or fully discharged laptop battery to automatic shutdown protecting. The correct way is that charge the battery in 20% state and stop charging in 98% . If the machine has the power calibration procedure, when the battery standard-by time significantly reduced. Then calibrate the battery in time to active the protection circuit performance.
For early notebook batteries (Ni-MH Ni-MH or Ni-Cd Ni-Cd), really need to fully charge and discharge in order to maintain good battery capacity. But for the lithium battery is not necessary even it may damage the battery.
In fact the lithium batteries has a little memory effect. The lithium battery materials is very sensitive to the conditions as temperature, the use of frequency and so on. The battery will be aging after used for some period time (standby time reduced). The natural wear and tear is an important reason, and inadequate maintenance is another important reason.
A well-designed lithium batteries have a very good protection circuit to prevent excessive charge and discharge. As over-charging and discharging of the Sony VGP-BPS8 battery will be the rapid reduction activity. Under the protection of protection circuit, the user fully charge and discharge the battery several times, in fact, impossible to achieve had "full" level.
Sometimes WINDOWS show that battery capacity is 20% or more, you can use 30 minutes. But after used 10 minutes or less the machine suddenly automatically shut down. The reason is that the battery has been aging, the battery protection circuit can not monitors the battery real capacity. In the normal battery depletion, the protection circuit original parameters have been unable to properly reflect the actual situation of the battery
So power calibration procedure is to correct the benchmark protection circuit parameters to accurately reflect the actual capacity . This correction process will often take two or three complete charge and discharge. As previously mentioned, fully charge and discharge will reduce the battery activity. It is not frequently used, usually once a month.

Battery Conditioning.

Anything and everything that uses rechargeable batteries should be conditioned initially and then on a regular basis in order to extend the life of your battery. These products can be your MP3 player, iPod, Cellular Phone, Cordless phone, laptop and other similar products with internal batteries or proprietary batteries. I have a 3 year old laptop that I can still get over 1.5 hours of battery life out of. The secret is conditioning your battery. The manner in which you condition your battery is the same whether it is a brand new product or you have had the product for a time. You must do the following: 1) Fully charge the item. 2) Use the item only on battery until he battery is completely drained. 3) Charge the item fully once again. 4) Fully drain the item a second time. 5) charge fully and use as you would normally for 60-90 days then repeat this process. I know it sounds pretty simple and t most people you would think this has no effect on battery life but instead of getting into the details of how and why this does work let me just impart that I have graduated from courses as an Electronics Technician and a Technologist and I have a e year old laptop, 4 year old Cellular phone and a 3 year old iPod all with battery lives that exceed what most people get from their items with much less use and age than mine. I was also offered a job with those geek squad people by their regional manager here but I turned them down, I hate robbing people and that is exactly what I believe the geek squad does here. This does work you just have to stick to it. Now Laptops are a difficult thing to condition because you have to go in and change the power settings regarding running off battery. What you want to do is set these in a way that will drain the battery completely in the shortest time, that means maximum brightness, never turn off display and never turn off hard drives. Best of luck to you all and

Using rechargable battery with new camera for the first time

If you are using a rechargeable battery, yes you should fully charge it before you use the camera for the first time. Rechargeable batteries are normally supplied without a charge from the factory, but not always. Fully charged batteries may be in storage for a long time before the camera is purchased and unlike modern dry cells, rechargables will not hold a charge for years.

Fully charge your battery, then run it until it has completely exhausted. If you plan to put the camera in storage at some point in the future, always recharge the battery every couple of months or so, to keep it in good condition.

Of course make sure the supplied battery is in fact rechargeable and not a lithium which should not be recharged.
