Sometimes not just the dmz or port configurations cause your nat settings to be other than open, you may not have good internet connection, the better it is the more you will open. Most routers are open by default, and those others need to be forwarded(like you wrote) with the upnp open and specific ports for xbox/ps3 servers opened. You seem to know a little already, maybe time to get a new router?,I recently upgraded myself due to problems with configuration.

I am trying to games on PS3 and cannot connect with friends. I believe this is because I have NAT Type 3 (closed) and I would like to change it to NAT Type 2 (moderate) but I do not know how.

Hi ..

The PS3 has 3 different NAT types. They are shown below.
Type 1: The PS3 is connected to the Internet without a firewall or router. No NAT issues.Type 2: The PS3 is connected to the Internet through a router which is configured correctly. No NAT issues.Type 3: The PS3 is connected to the Internet through a router that needs configuring.Ideally, you want to have a Type 2 NAT. However, a Type 1 NAT does not affect your game play.

First of all you will have to Disable the firewall in the Router / Modem

If you are using a Router ..

Then

Make sure that UPnP(Universal Plug n Play) is enabled
Enable the IP Address of the PS3 in DMZ

Or Forward the ports

Below are the TCP and UDP ports that need to be forwarded:

TCP: 80, 443, 5223
UDP: 5223, 3478, 3479, 3658

For more details on port forwarding , log on to http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm

Hope it helps

Hello i got the zyxel p660hw-d1 today and its imposible to have open NAT even using DMZ or Upnp, NAT is always moderated. Any solution? thanks

First you must tell me what you are trying to do... becaus you talk about OPEN NAT (i'm not an expert in gaming) but in th network world NAT stand's for Network Address Translation from the WAN side of the router to the LAN side... and Upnp is a protocol, nothing to do with DMZ (DeMilitarized Zone) which involves opening ALL ports in the FireWall of your router to a specific machine on the LAN side....

Dont forget opening ports is opening doors to hackers... (I think the term NAT in the gaming world has some thing to do with controlling access to other players) post me if i'm wrong!!!

Cheers!

I want to change my nat type and i have done 1000 things people tell me to and nothing works

port forwarding, you would have to call sony help line to get the port numbers and ranges, or set up a dmz with the same static IP as your ps3. Sony says that they preffer that people have nat type two while being connected to the network, but I noticed that nat type two does give me a moderate while in gaming mode, but Sony does not see that as any issue.. You have to set your up your ps3 with a static IP and configure your router the same way to your ps3 for DMZ.

How do i change my nat type

go on a computer.

1. in the internet address bar type in 192.168.1.1 or routerlogin.net
2. enter admin and password in the fields
3. your now in your routers setup
4. find a setting called nat
5. set it to open instead of secure

this changes your nat type to 2
if that doesnt work

1. login to router as usual, but find a setting called default dmz server
2. enter the IP address of your PS3 as the dmz server (to see what your ps3's ip is go to network > connection settings and have a look.

this should definitley make it a nat 2 - but try the first method

How do i change my NAT connection from moderate to open

This one is simple. Find the IP address that your Xbox is assigned by your router, then put it into the DMZ. This also goes for PS3 users who are having trouble with internet access.
