I have an Acer TravelMate 2480-2705. I needed to reset the Bios. I unplugged the cmos battery for 24 hours. I plugged the battery in and the laptop would not start. Is there away to rest the motherboard? I pressed the power button. The power light and three other light came on for about two seconds. The fan did not start. When I press the power button I can hear a sound coming from the board. I can hear the sound if I put my ear close to the board.

How can i make bios k8n-vm.rom to motherboard because i cant read from flopy this file , thank you

anaging and updating your BIOS
The following utilities allow you to manage and update the motherboard
Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) setup.
1.
ASUS EZ Flash
(Updates the BIOS using a floppy disk during POST.)
2.
ASUS AFUDOS
(Updates the BIOS in DOS mode using a bootable floppy
disk.)
3.
ASUS CrashFree BIOS 2
(Updates the BIOS using a bootable floppy
disk or the motherboard support CD when the BIOS file fails or gets
corrupted.)
4.
ASUS Update
(Updates the BIOS in Windows
®
environment.)
Refer to the corresponding sections for details on these utilities.

prepare the motherboard support CD or the floppy disk containing the updated motherboard BIOS before using this utility.
• Make sure that you rename the original or updated BIOS file in the
floppy disk to K8NVM.ROM.

Recovering the BIOS from the support CD
To recover the BIOS from the support CD:
1. Remove any floppy disk from the floppy disk drive, then turn on the
system.
2. Insert the support CD to the optical drive.
3. The utility displays the following message and automatically checks
the floppy disk for the original or updated BIOS file.
4. Restart the system after the utility completes the updating process.
DO NOT shut down or reset the system while updating the BIOS! Doing
so can cause system boot failure!

ACPI on ASUS A8N-VM CSM Motherboard not working.

Can you please indicate how you turn the motherboard on if the on/ off switch is not operating?

I take it that because of the keyboard problem at boot up you are unable to get into BIOS> If this is the case then it might be very difficult to diagnose what is going on. YOu need to be in BIOS setup to check the state of the hardware.

What setup have you used to program automatic sheduling of TV program recording. Is the computer active all the time?

Not sure why you think ACPI or cmos battery might be causing the problem.

Please post a few answers that might help me understand the problem a bit better.

try to find updated drivers from ASUS and see if you also can find a BIOS update. Most times the BIOS update will solve most known issues. OPreferably do it via old-fashioned diskdrive, that is still the most reliable.

Raid controller disabled to P5RD1-VM

The manual is here: http://dlsvr03.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/socket775/P5RD1-VM/e2440_p5rd1-vm.pdf (very slow download). Look under Advanced/Southbridge/SATA
