I have a problem with my Dimage z3 4.0 digital camera. If I turn on my camera and it happens to be in the playback mode, I will receive a “system error” and the camera will shut down. If I turn on the camera and it happens to be in either the view finder mode or screen mode I can take a picture just fine but if I try to review my pictures in playback mode the camera shuts down. I have tried a new memory card but that’s not the problem. Have you heard of this problem?

Plug it in, right click on it in my computer and select format, tick the quick format box and start it up! this will sort it out, i believe the problem is caused by incorrectly disconnecting the camera from a pc/laptop, so when you next disconnect make sure you safely remove it (right click in my computer, select safely remove)

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Turn on camera and system error screen comes up and you cannot do anything to camera.

1st you need to update the firmware to 1.3u
download firmware here
http://ca.konicaminolta.com/support/americas/digital_cameras/dimage-z/dimage-z3/software_drivers/index.html (this allows 2GB cards)
instructions are here
http://ca.konicaminolta.com/support/americas/digital_cameras/dimage-z/dimage-z3/software_drivers/firmware/installation_guide.html
(instructions are a little vague on where macro mode button *flower button* is)
Also, you might have a bad SD memory card. format the card (erasing all data/pics on card)
and take some picks and try again.. if you can
If still a system error try a different SD card to get past error then update firmware with THAT SD card.
IF that don't work.... your hosed... ;(

My Dimage Z3 camera shuts down on a 'system error'-message immediatly after starting up. How can I solve this apart from buying brand new/ replacing memory cards.

Hi , just solved, I think the very same problem that you have with your Z3. I got the some of the solution on a similar web site. Here's what worked for me. I connected my Z3 to my PC in the normal way. When I turned it on it stayed on and did not immediately cut off. I was able to see all the photo's on the 1gig card. Some were corrupted and there was a lot of duplication. I was able to download all the photo's onto the PC. Once I was sure they were there I was now able to format the card by using the PC. This seems to have solved the problem for me.
I think that I may have caused the problem by trying to download photos when I may have had to much vino to drink!!!!!!! I ended up duplicating photo's instead of downloading them and trying to stop this in mid-stream may have caused the camera to ingest a gremlin. Also the battery ran low when trying to download and cut the camera off. Hope that this works for you.

Only works in playback mode

If when switching from playback to LCD then Viewfinder and no preview display is visible in either LCD nor viewfinder then the switch is not switching. If the red battery light is on try new batteries as some functions are unavailable with low battery power or connect the AC adaptor to see if power is a problem. Does the menu work? Does the zoom function move the lens? If all is functional in the playback mode then the switch may not be making contact internally. Carefully apply pressure to the switch while slowly moving it between all 3 positions while seeing if any display changes both through the viewfinder and the LCD. If you are technically confident you can open the camera case and try bridging the switch poles with a small screw driver to see if the switch is defective or misaligned. EBay has had DiMAGE cameras listed for 'parts only' very cheap but the Z3 would not merit the cost of a camera repair shop. My last successful bid for a Z6 was $200 2 years ago. My first repair on a digital camera was pretty simple since inside the case is a single printed circuit board with little ribbon connectors that can be reseated at ZIF type connectors. Just be careful, slow and keep track of the screws and parts orientation. Any friend who fixes laptops can help you but a shop will cost you more than the camera is worth. Good luck.
