This is the second Cuisinart Microwave oven (cmw-100) we have had in 6 months. The first one we returned for an exchange. This time we are close to returning it for a refund. We do not clean it with anything but a damp sponge. We use it mostly to reheat food, coffee etc. The symptom (always happens when we are not using it) is that it starts beeping - sometimes just a couple of times, sometimes 10 or so beeps. At the same time the LED displays a series of what look to be error codes (I can't find them documented anywhere) and the keys below the numeric pad stop working. With the current oven, we discovered that we can "fix" the problem by randomly hitting the keys above the keypad several times (sometimes as many as 20 or so) and then it starts working again. It is really irritating.
It sound like you have a bad keypad or controls.
Is it possible that moisture from the sponge is getting into the controls?
You might contact the manufacturer to see if there might be a recall. I've seen keypad recalls in the past.
Anytime the keypad is suspected of coming on by itself, the oven should be unplugged when not in use.
