Question about Electrolux Dishwashers

Washing powder does not dispense properly - Electrolux Dishwashers

Posted by on

  • flowerbabe Jul 02, 2008

That was the most informative site I had seen, but didn't solve my problem. My dispenser does open, just doesn't seem to want to use the powder. It mostly stays in the dispenser and remains clogged and wet. Even when I have taken out the mess and dried it to start again, the problem remains the same. Any ideas?

To avoid personal injury or even death, always disconnect your appliance from its power source--that is, unplug it or break the connection at the circuit breaker or fuse box--before you do any troubleshooting or repair work on your appliance. Also, because some components may have sharp edges, use caution while working on your appliance.

Below is a link to common solutions that will help you with parts and diagnostic procedures that are specifically tuned to your manufacturers data plate information.
It provides exploded view imagery, belt routing diagrams, parts imagery and function, parts ordering and shipping information, error code details, just about anything you need to get your appliance up and running again.

Thank you very much for your generous rating!

Well, if you faithfully tried all that was offered, then based on what information was supplied, I would maybe trade it in on a Maytag Jetclean dishwasher. I sold and serviced them for over 25 years, and I own one, and feel that this is the best one on the market today. No need to buy top end either, the mid-class is great.

    Good luck!

Gritty murky crockery powder dispenser has sticky powder after the wash still in it.

Is it the dispenser that has murky powder or the dishwasher?
Dispenser: Is the dispenser being blocked from opening all the way during the wash load? This can happen in some dishwashers if a tall pan or dish is blocking the dispenser from fully opening. Hence, part of the detergent stays inside the dispenser and is goopy/murky/yuckie.
White powder on racks, nonstick spatulas, silverware basket: There has been a recent change in dishwasher formulation that can cause a white residue to deposit. Phosphates have been all but removed from dishwasher detergent. If there is a white residue on the dishwasher racks, etc, try a dishwasher cleaner such as Affresh for dishwashers and then look to consumer union for a new formulation. Be of good cheer: phosphates are very bad for our waterways, fish and fauna. This change was made in laundry detergent about 16 yrs ago.

The dishwashing powder dispenser opens, but does not empty. After the wash, you have the powder that is one harden mass.

This usually indicates that either the machine is overloaded, or the "fill valve" has
failed. If the center hole in the lower rack is covered by dishes the soap will not
dispense properly because the "power tower" cannot pop up to spray.
The fill valve is relatively inexpensive, located under the machine and requires
shutting off power at the breaker panel and shutting off the hot water
to the machine to change out.

The powder dispenser on my ls 610a dishwasher does not seem to work properly. There is always powder left in the dispenser and the dishes are not always washed properly.

Try to make sure that the path for water isn't blocked to the dispenser. Ours will do that too if we forget to leave some space for the streaming water to hit the little tray.

My whirlpool dishwasher soap dispenser is apparently not opening during cleaning. I find dirty dishes and clumps of soap in the hopper. Whirlpool quiet partner II

I bet your clumps of soap began with the beginning of the use of a different DW detergent powder.

Try this (trust me) Go buy a box of brand name Dishwasher powder (e.g. Electrosol or Cascade) Use it for two loads of dishes and report your results back here. OK?

Dishwasher problem

Symptoms:
Dispenser lid is open. Caked powder at (what would be during normal operation) bottom edge of soap dispenser or caked powder fallen onto dishes or dishwasher bottom. There may be loose powder in rest of dispenser or spilled down inside door or onto dishes underneath dispenser.

Solution:

Keep the area around the soap dispenser lid clear when loading the top tray.

Explanation:
The soap dispenser needs to swing open during the wash cycle. In many dishwashers the top tray has an indentation as wide as the lid of the dispenser. This allows the top tray to be as large deep as possible while still allowing space for the dispenser lid to open. People often pack their dishwasher with things overhanging this gap.

During the wash cycle the catch will release but the overhanging cutlery or crockery prevents the lid from opening all but a few degrees. Some water will splash in but not enough to wash out the soap powder. The soap powder at the bottom of the dispenser will then cake.

When the front door is opened the spring loaded lid, which is partly open, will of course swing fully open and you'll be convinced that the lid opened normally during operation. If this is the problem then if you're very careful and open the door very slowly you can actually hear the lid flip open. Also, depending on when the lid opens, how far it opened during operation and how fast you open the door you may find soap powder spilled down to cover the dishes at the front or down the inside of the door. This happens when you first open the door and obviously there couldn't be loose powder there if the powder had emerged while there was water washing around. Seeing the lid open as you open the door is a lot harder but can be done on some machines.

The powder dispenser is still half full of powder after a wash the other half of the powder is dumped on the bottom tray and the dishes are not washed

check the dial settings and make sure the right wash cycle is selected. Sounds like you may have it on rinse only.

Dispensing tray is not opening at right time in cleaning cycle

unlikely to be dispensor opening at the wrong time. the powder is washed out by water squirting from angled jets at the end of the spray arm. check no blockage in spray arm - sometimes difficult to see. you may find also that the spray arms are not rotating for the same reason

Before taking anything to bits, check you aren't just loading the machine in such a way that something (for us, it's usually a frying pan) is stopping the soap dispenser from springing open all the way. A.
