My PS3 console will not play any disc which is inserted. Everything else seems to work it even shows the little disc that appears on screen, appears and spins but thats all it does.

It needs a new blu ray laser installed. If you do a search on YouTube there are lots of videos showing how to do this yourself or find someone in your area that can install a new laser.

Fails when trying to read disc, create a game save, trophy or access network. error code 8001050F

Here’s what’s going on right now: something with the PS3’s internal clock has borked in some pre-slim models. This is not a PSN issue; it has to do with your PS3’s clock. This clock is NOT related to the OS clock. It seems to be a leap year bug. Setting your clock ahead will do nothing. All PS3s around the world were affected at the exact same time.
Does this affect me?
-If you have a Slim PS3, you’re good to go. Continue playing it as normal.
-If you have a “fat” PS3, you may be affected. Some fat PS3s have worked ok, but it seems a good majority have been bugged.
What does this bug mean?
-If affected, your date and time has been set to a random past date. This prevents you from signing into PSN, playing any PSN games, or using any DLC. Your trophies will also not display correctly or be able to sync.
How do I fix it?
-You can’t. Even if you don’t sign into PSN, it won’t help. This is a hardware issue.
So, what do I do?
-Wait 24 hours. Other products that have had similar bugs have corrected themselves after the “bugged” day. On Monday around 6pm central time, all PS3s will automatically correct themselves…maybe.
-If that doesn’t work, we’ll need a firmware update from Sony, which should be a pretty important priority for them right now.
Did I lose my data/themes/etc?
Your save data/games/dlc/themes are fine. They’ll be fixed when the PS3 is fixed. Trophies are uncertain right now, but they’ll be fine if you’ve synced them before the PS3 was bugged. Unsynced trophies are an unknown right now.
If I have a bugged PS3, can I still use it?
It’s probably not a good idea, as I have no idea what will happen to the trophies you earn during the bugged time. Movies/media will work fine.

My ps3 does not read discs

I have exactly the same problem, I even changed the blu-ray lazer but I still get the same problem, I think it could be the little motor that spins the disc, it seems to be stuck, Ill try fixing it or changing it and Ill let you all know if it worked.

PS3 wont read any games, dvds or cds

I have the same problem. My PS3 stopped reading any bluray discs. The spinning circle in the top right corner will come on for a few seconds when a disc is inserted, but then nothing. I found a work-around to get it to read discs though. You have to have a bluray disc in the drive (game or movie) and start a downloaded game or Playstation Home. Once the game or Home loads, hit the PS button on the controller. The crossbar menu will pull up and you will notice the disc icon will (magically) pop up. Click the quit game icon. Once you are out of the downloaded game or Home the disc icon will still be there. You can then load the game or disc. The icon will remain there until you eject the disc, so you will have to repeat this every time you want to load a game. Although this is a workaround to prevent Sony from gouging you for $150+, this is still not a fix. A fix would be for Sony to admit they have a money making firmware problem and fix it. This fix will only work if you don't have an actual hardware failure (which I apparently don't). I think a class action lawsuit is in order for everyone that has this problem and especially for those who have shelled out the money to fix something that is firmware related. I'm sure Sony will only fix the firmware to make this workaround not work anymore so as not to lose their little cash flow scheme.

It's the Blu-Ray Drive. They only last 1-3 years with average use. If your PS3 is less than a year old and you still have the original receipt Sony will repair the problem for free. Otherwise they're going to charge you $150 for the repair. You can reach them at: 1-800-345-SONY

Unless you have a technical background in electronics there's nothing I would suggest doing. A firmware update and or CD /DVD cleaner disk will do nothing for your problem. I've fixed more than 100 PS3's with this exact problem so I know exactly what I'm talking about.

Please help im in need and board

Hi, the discs will spin ??? The bubble in top right corner don't stop spinning ???
If you answered NOT the first and YES the second question ...... Then you probably have a defective laser lens like my 40 GB purchased in 2008-Nov.
You have 2 choices: 1- Send it for repair (With warranty) 2- Fix it your self.
It's no complicated, I did it. Just buy a laser replacement and do it. Look for videos in Youtube.com and will see that it's so easy.
