Question about Siemens SpeedStream 4200 (13A4200001) Bridge

Siemens Speedstream 4200 NetComm V300 on VOIP

I have an ADSL service with Bigpond using a Siemens Speedstream 4200 and recently connected a "My Netfone" VOIP service using a NetComm V300. At least once a day the Netcomm V300 goes into "bootup" phase where the line and phone LEDS flash simultaneously and the VOIP servive is off the air. The NetComm V300 has be powered down for at least a minute for the VOIP service to be restored. I have tried to simulate the problem by disconnecting the interent, disconnecting the phone line, powering down either or both modems but cannot get the event to occur. I am wondering whether it is a setting in either modem that requires changing or an incompatability problem.

Can you help?

I thought Latoof had the answer. The modem went for 2 days without failure but has reverted back to failing at least once a day. In your comment are you saying to set all IP addresses to 10.0.0.1?

When the V300 Line/Phone led flash in alternating fashion, it's telling you it's WAN connection is dead. The WAN light is off too. so internet and VoiP phone will not work

When the V300 Line/Phone led flash in sync, it can't register to the SIP server.

The V300 does not appear to be listed on the Mynetfone website though. Have you checked to see that your V300 has the latest Firmware. LINK

It may be that the V300 is not getting it's IP renewed. Can you alter the IP lease time? Do you have the V300 set up for PPPoE, or do you have it set to static or DHCP (refer CH4, page 25)

Can you try setting the WAN mode to STATIC and using the IP of 10.0.0.1 and if required input the same values for any other fields too USERGUIDE refer page 27

  • Dave Jul 07, 2008

From your post 2/7 , the WAN side of the V300 is set to DHCP clientso it gets it's IP from the speedstream 4200. I'm suggesting that you try seting it to STATIC and defining the IP as 10.0.0.1

If this does not work then set the WAN back to DHCP and try setting the LAN DHCP SERVER to disabled. I am not 100% here but it seems to me that we have 2 DHCP servers one in the modem and one in the V300. I am not sure if they are "isolated" so it is worth a try.

Post back results and we can go from there. I must admit I am learning a few things along the way here too LOL

Another possible fix is to put the modem in "bridge" mode and set your V300 up for PPPoE.

No activity on my new speedstream 4200

Ethernet and DSL lights are indicating you have ADSL available on your line, and that you have computers connected to the router.

What has probably happened is that Optus did not set up the new router with your username and password. Go to thw following website for details on how to setup the modem.

http://help.optuszoo.com.au/help/dsl/connected/windows/optus_modems/speedstream_4200

Manual Modem Settings The Optus DSL Broadband self-installation CD configures all the necessary settings for your DSL Broadband service. You do not need to manually configure your modem if you have run the self-installation CD. While the following information is provided for your reference, using the self-installation CD is the recommended method for configuring your modem.
The Siemens SpeedStream 4200 ADSL modem can use either USB or Ethernet to connect to your computer.
  • If you are connecting via USB you will need to run the self-installation CD to install the USB driver before you connect your modem. The Siemens SpeedStream 4200 ADSL modem supplied by Optus has been customised for the Optus DSL Broadband service. Only the USB driver supplied on the self-installation CD will work with the Optus service. If you do not have the self-installation CD, you can download the latest drivers from the Siemens website.
  • If you are connecting via Ethernet it is possible to manually configure your modem without the self-installation CD. Only a web browser is required.
After connecting your modem there are two key steps to manually configure your modem for the Optus DSL Broadband service:
  • PC settings - Configure your computer's Ethernet network interface.
  • Configure Your Modem - Set the password in your modem's configuration pages.

Note: If you are updating the password in your modem, please complete steps 1 to 3 only.
Step 1 of 5
  • Enter http://10.1.1.1 (Default IP address of the Optus Supplied Siemens SpeedStream 4200) to access the modem Configuration software. You may wish to add this page to your Favorites for easy access later.
  • The following modem System Summary screen will appear.

  • Click on the word Setup in the green menu of options on the left side of the web page. An expanded set of options will be displayed.
  • Click PPP in the list of options that appeared below the word Setup.
  • The ISP Password page will appear:

  • Replace the default username (john_citizen@optusnet.com.au) with the username provided for you by Optus DSL Broadband.
  • Replace the default password with the password provided by Optus DSL Broadband in the Password field.
  • Note: You will find your Optus DSL Broadband username and password on the letter you received with your self-installation kit.
  • Save these details by clicking the Save Settings button.
Step 3 of 5
  • The next screen will ask you to disconnect and reconnect to the Optus DSL Broadband service.

Intermittent ADSL connection

The DSL light blinking or going out indicates that the DSL modem is loosing sync. This is usually caused by noise on the line. When you get the DSL service you should be given filters to put on all of your phones so that the phones will not interfere with the DSL signal. Those filters need to be attached to anything connected to the phone line that has the DSL on it except for the DSL modem. Other than that the problem could be on the service providers end, something outside your home, or the DSL modem going out. I would suggest that you verify everything is filtered, then contact your service provider so they can run test on your DSL line.

When you updated the firmware, did you receive any messages about failures? any messages at all?
