E5 Error when I reinstalled new & original cartridges

While I was printing 2 days ago, my MP160 printer notified me that my cartridge has low ink level, so I changed both the black & colored cartridges with new (& original) ones. That time, I was able to use the printer fine and complete my printing job. Today (2 days after I changed the cartridges), when I opened my printer, I get a flashing E5 error message. I tried reinstalling the cartridges several times but I still keep on getting the error. Now, I can't use my printer even the scanner.

Pleas help!!!

Purchased a new colour cartrige.. Put it in then got the E5 message..

Even when i take them out and still same error, Tried to use just the black one but still no joy.. Any luck???

I refilled my cartridges at a refilling centre. I followed their instructions so the printer would be able to reconize the cardridges. At first all worked fine, but after only 3 prints I also got the E-5 error. Thinking it might be caused by the refilling I bought 2 original cartridges. But the error remains.
Is there anyway to fix this?

P.S. English is not my first language, so sorry for spellerrors.

to eagle338, I am sure I am using the correct ink cartridge and I am pretty sure I am installing it properly. However the problem MIGHT be due to a string wire kind of thing which I do not know where it belongs, I do not know if that is the problem, but can you help me out?

E5 means The ink cartridges are not installed or a non-supported ink cartridge is installed ,or the ink cartridges are not installed properly. Try to remove the cartridge and re-install it and make sure it is seated properly. If this doesn't work then let me know and i will get you the reset procedure..

E5 - The ink cartridges are not installed or a non-supported ink cartridge is installed , or the ink cartridges are not installed properly..

  • In certain models of Canon Pixma printers such as the Canon MP160 and Canon MP150, you may receive an E5 error when trying to print. In this state, you will not be able to use any of the functions of your printer. The error itself is an ink cartridge error.
