Lexmark Wheelwriter 10 Series II Typewriter Logo

My IBM Wheelwriter 10 Series II is suddenly printing different characters than what I'm typing. Two other staffers have had this same issue. Any idea what is causing this and how to fix? Thanks!

No spills and no dents. I'll try the canned air if I can find some. The machine was fine until 30 minutes ago. LOL! This is/was also happening on two other machines. Very odd.

Try CODE "L" this will take you out of the Language Mode.

It wasn't in Language mode. I tried that and it works for a few characters and then reverts back to a mind of its own.

If it wasn't in the language mode ckeck the print wheel for bent or broken spokes or debris in that area. You may have had a spill in the keyboard. If it was just water it may cure itself. If you have som canned air blow out the Area that the P/W sits in.

When typing, all of the letters do not print,

There are two possibilities, Most likely the print solenoid cap is broken but the solenoid may just be gummy. The sol. is just inside the L. printer side frame just L of the selection motor, just in front of and directly below the small blue rubber damper. Spray some WD40 on the rear of the solenoid. If that dosen't help we sell the solenoid cap with shipping and instructions for 20.00.

Check in the area where the printwheel is installed for paper or other debris. If it does the same thing with the printwheel out then it is probably a printwheel sensor.

Try a little light oil on the printer shaft. WD40 works well.
