Hi. I want to set up a server and run dumb terminals (thin clients) off of it. Can anyone give me a basic run-down about how I do that?

You would setup Windows Server. Windows Server 2003 and 2008 Small Business Server comes with a license of Terminal Services Server.

You would first need to setup your Windows Server. Install it according to at least minimum requirements.

Make sure you assign this server the correct role. If this is the primary server and if you intend on hosting dns and dhcp on this machine, then please make sure you are assigning this server these roles.

You will need to create user accounts so that you can log into from your thin clients.

Next you need to run the install for Terminal Server.

Next you need to configure each thin client.

Next try to access each thin client via Remote Desktop as well as the server.

This is the basic run down of the process. If you do not know how to setup a server then you will need to ask that question as this is very detailed. Also you will need to be more detailed in your question as to whether this is a linux based network or a windows based network.

Hope this helps. Please don't forget to give me a good rating as well as your vote.

How do i start tomcat server?

I ll share config steps that I use:
1) After installing the Tomcat server set the environment variables in the following way :-

a)var name:path
var value:C:\Java\jdk1.5\bin;C:\Tomcat 5.5\bin

b)var name:classpath
C:\Tomcat 5.5\webapps;C:\Tomcat 5.5\common\lib\servlet-api.jar

c)var name:JAVA_HOME
var value:C:\Java\jdk1.5

d)var name:CATALINA_HOME
Var Values:C:\Tomcat 5.5

2)After setting these variables check to see if the server is running by typing "http://localhost:8080/" in the web browser.

3)If you can see the Apache Tomcat page with the message "If you're seeing this page via a web browser, it means you've setup Tomcat successfully. Congratulations!" then everything is fine & server is well configured.

I havent tried it on Win 2000 yet, these steps I use to configure Tomcat on Win XP & Vista, hope this proves to be of some help to you too.

.ear or .war files

There's no easy answer to these as there are too many variables to consider. The first issue is to correct you on one point - HTML and JSP files cannot be made into an "executable file" (like a Windows .exe file) but must be placed onto a web server that can process JSP files.

The most common JSP web server is called Tomcat and can be downloaded for free from http://tomcat.apache.org. This application will allow you to run your project on your local computer or network but it is unlikely (difficult or not possible depending on your ISP) you will be able to make this accessible to other Internet users. This is usually only good for testing to see if your application works properly (which you should do before putting it on the Internet)

If want other people to access your web project you will need to find a commercial hosting provider that allows you to host JSP-based websites. These are actually not so common so you will have to look around the Web to find a good one at a good price.

As far as using Tomcat web server is concerned I would refer you to the manual at the website you downloaded it from. With JSP projects it is not always as easy as copying your files to the server and having it work straight away - sometimes you need other library files and sometimes you need to configure the server correctly with details about your web application - all depending on how you created your JSP project (which I don't know enough about).

If you haven't already, I recommend using the free Netbeans application from http://www.netbeans.org to develop your JSP projects as it makes it much easier, comes with a built in JSP web server and there are a lot of good tutorials and instructions at their website to make it easy to get your web application up and running.

Once you get over the initial problem of how to run JSP web applications, using JSP is a lot of fun and very powerful.

Let me know how you get on or if you need any more help.

Hello all can you please help me on how to restore the configuration of my ASA 5520? thanx

If you are going for factory reset use the following commands

asa>enable
asa#write erase
asa#reload

Dont save the configuration when it prompts for it.

if you want to restore the configuration from the backup

1. You need to have a TFTP server
2. Locate the config file on your TFTP server
3. TFTP server should be reachable from ASA

then

asa#copy tftp flash

give the tftp server ip address
give the configuration file name (as exactly on the TFTP server)

reload

Most of the email service providers, dont allow you to send email(they give this as a paid service). You can configure your SMTP settings on your email account properties with the SMTP server details given to you by your email service provider in order to send emails, Contact your email service provider for the SMTP server details.
