DMC TZ2 Lens Cover is not opening

I am traveling with my lumix DMC TZ2 and from one day to another (nothing happened) the lens cover is not opening any more.
the 4 segments seam to move freely; there is no dirt visible, no sounds.
everything seams normal; segments mover together - like they should.
Everything else is working fine - I can take pictures if I keep the cap open with a finger.
any ideas?
