Re: linksys router wrt54g
To connect your computer to the router, all you should need to do is to connect the cables in one of the numbered ports on the router and then reboot your computer so that it pulls an IP address from the router.
Satelite Internet service vareis greatly from the normal setup required of cable or DSL providers, so perhaps you should contact your internet providers support technicians as those calls are free.
As for the gaming ports; in the menu of your router, you will find the port forwarding option available. Simply enter the ports you use to play those games with and you will be able to open them up for better game playing. Test it a few times to make sure you have the settings right, but it is normally fairly simple and understandable even if you haven't read the manual before.

Have you tried doing so? Most likely presets from one device will not work on another. You can try though, it should not cause any problems. Worst case you just perform a factory reset on your router if the configuration gets messed up by trying to load the preset from your WRT54G.
Hi leftella, First of all, I would like to ask you few questions.
1.Who is your ISP(Internet service provider) like verizon, Bell, Comcast?
2.How many ports you see at the back of the Modem?like WAN, Ethernet, LAN, DSL, Data? 3.How many ports you see at the back of the Router?like Internet,Ethernet,WAN, LAN?
4.What is the make and model of the laptop with which you want to go wireless?
To setup the router you don't need any CD, just need to connect the Modem to router and router to your computer with hard wire Initially and then after setup, you can go wireless.
As you need to upgrade the firmware for the router.
Please follow the below link that will take you to the router's drivers page.
Please select the appropriate version from the list of the versions and as soon as you will select the version on the left hand corner slightly below the version number you will find the "firmware for your router"
Please let me know if it was of some help?
If you forget your password, click on the reset button and re-config it, usually your WLAN won't work because you deleted all the config information, if you had this problem, connect it using LAN modem, and then write the router's IP usually it is 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1 and then write the username: admin password: admin
Here's a information page on routers and setups. http://www.comone.ca/Support/WirelessSecurity/tabid/80/Default.aspx This is an emulator page for your router - it basically lets you walk thru the pages like a real router but it's online just to show you how it works. http://www.comone.ca/Support/WirelessSecurity/tabid/80/Default.aspx
Click the wireless tab at the top, then below click security tab, security mode click enable, then it will offer choices of the type of security, select one and the next window will ask for key information - wep is common and easy to use. Each time you select and change it, the old settings are erased.
Try to reduce the MTU on the router's settings. Open the setup page of the router. Launch your browser like IE or Mozilla. Type on the address bar http://192.168.1.1 and press Enter. It will prompt you for username and password. By default, there is no username. On the password field type admin and press enter. Look for MTU under the Setup tab. By default it is on Auto. Set it to Manual and change the MTU size to 1463 (default is 1500). Then click on Save Settings button on the bottom. If it saved it, turn off the router for 30 secs then power it back on. Check your gaming again. Hope this helps.
