Loose bottom stitches mean the UPPER tension has a problem. Pull the thread through the tension assembly and test it to make sure the tension is working correctly.
(To do this test, adjust your tension setting to normal or medium or 5 or something in the middle. Raise the presser foot and pull the thread through the tension. It should pull easily!! Lower the presser foot and pull the thread. It should pull noticeably harder.) If it does not work this way( the tension stays loose) you will need to set the tension to Zero, open the discs with a small screwdriver and remove the lint or thread which is stuck in there.

What am I doing wrong when the stitching on top of the material is ok and straight and the backside is knotting?

wrong bobbin tension , but amazingly its actually easier to adjust the top threads tension to compensate for it , use your tension knob to slowly adjust , try an inch , slowly adjust try an inch , and so on to get a top and bottom thread tension to match , this will need to be adjusted for each major change in fabric (aka , knits to woven )

Why stitches on top are great but bottom are loose and loopy?

Check your upper threading. Make sure it's between your tension discs. Remember loops on bottom, something is wrong with upper threading/tension. Loops on top something is wrong in the bobbin area (like the bobbin being in upside down or a loose bobbin tension spring)

start by rethreading the top thread with the presser foot UP.

Got a Singer Esteem 1732 and the bobbin test shows it has no tension at all (which shows on the stitch)

normally loose bottom stitches indicate a problem with the needle thread tension not the bobbin. try removing top thread completely and then rethread machine with presser foot down, if you do it with foot raised auto tension will not function

Bottom stitch is gathering, but I think the machine is not threaded correctly

Hi there,
I would start by re winding your bobbin and making sure that it is done though all the correct tension loops. A bobbin that is wound to tight or loose can cause all sorts of problems. If that has been done then completely rethread the machine from scratch. Now go through and check all your tensions, it sounds like the bobbin tension is too loose and your stitch tension is too tight. Adjust and try again.
Good luck

Singer 2517c. When sewing, the bottom stitch is using to much thread, excessive amounts & the stitch isn't tight. I've tried all settings & have used a new bobbin. I'm at a loss......

Your description isn't very clear. When you say the "bottom stitch is using too much thread" Do you mean you see lots of loopy threads on top of the seam? Or do you mean you see loops on the bottom under the fabric? If your loops on the bottom, that means the top tension is too loose, you've not remembered to put the presser foot down, you have not threaded the top thread properly... Start by rethreading carefully with the presser foot UP. Then do a test stitch, remembering to put the presser foot down. If you still get loops underneath... tighten the tension.

If your loops are on the top of the fabric. loosen the top tension... then do a test seam... and if you still have loops loosen again and repeat. If you start to see loops on the bottom... tighten the tension a bit.

Good luck

THE TOP THREAD IS NOT LOOPED AS IT SHOULD BE FOR STRAIGHT SEWING

is it the right needle for the fabric?
is the needle inserted into the needle holder correctly?
is the machine set correctly for straight stitch?
it's possible that the machine could be out of time.

Loose bottom stitch on brother se 350

Hi, general rule of thumb:: loops on the top, problem on the bottom.. Loops on the bottom, problem is on the top.. When threading your machine, stop just before you thread your needle, put the presser foot down. Try pulling the thread. If it pulls easily, the thread is not thru the tension wheel right. If it pulls hard, you got it right.

CONSEW 206RB5 TOP THREAD NOT FORMING STITCHES AND BREAKING

you have your thread tension too tight that's why it is pulling the bottom stitch all the way through it looks good from the bottom but not good on top. Its pulled the stitch all the way through the material.
I had my own upholstery shop 18 yrs and tension gets you every time.Just loosen the top tension.

Big loops on bottom stitch

You have no top tension. Rethread the top of the machine. Make shure you raise the presserfoot before threading.
