My Acer Aspire One screen is cracked, and I have another monitor connected to it, but it isn't working when I press Fn+F5.. what else could I do? I called the Acer Technical Support and all they said was to see a local technician but I don't have the money.

Connecting an External Monitor or Data Projector You can switch to anexternal monitor or data projector by two methods.1. Connect the externalmonitor to the laptop's video port, power up the external monitor first and thelaptop. The video information will automatically switch to the externalmonitor.2. If you power up thelaptop first then you can switch the video output to the external monitor bypressing the Fn key and one of the Function keys, depending upon your make andmodel laptop. You can also toggle between the external monitor or both LCDscreen plus the external monitor or back to LCD screen only by pressing the Fnkey plus one of the function key. Here is a list of keycombinations for some of the laptops :-IBM ThinkPad = Fn + F7HP and Compaq = Fn + F4Toshiba = Fn + F5Dell = Fn + F8

Hi, Could you please post the Model Number of the computer. Are you trying to connect using a VGA cable or a HDMI ?Fn+F5 key combinations are used to toggle the display between the laptop and the External Monitor.Try these steps
1.Remove all cables,Turn OFF computer and Monitor
2.Start the computer and wait till it boots to windows nrmally.
3.Start the Monitor, then plug the cables between laptop and Monitor.
4.Check with Fn+F5 to toggle display
Go into Control Panel> and choose the display settings (depends on your operating system). In the display area look for a screen that allows you to change display settings. Once there, choose the "detect" button which will then allow you to use the multiple display option. Choose Duplicate to show same thing on both screens or Extend to have two independent screens.
Fn + F5 toggles the display output, the trick here to wait each time you hit this combination because it goes through several options. Hit it once and it may want to go to just the external, then both the laptop screen and the external. etc. Now Fn + F6 turns the backlight bulb off on the internal monitor to save energy. Now I am giving up the link to your service manual, it is in PDF format so you can make a copy for yourself and keep on the laptop, print it or save it to a flash so you can reference it later. I believe if you take the keyboard off and disconnect the video lead on the left side where the display plugs into the motherboard, then when you power the laptop back up it will default to the external cord and you can use the laptop without any switching. That is what I am doing with an Aspire 5920 that I am rebuilding. Good luck, ParrotHead PC Repair Just copy and paste the link below to you internet address bar and hit enter.
Hi there. The keyboard toggle you are using is the correct one. Sometimes you have to hit Fn + F5 a couple of times to stay on there is no real set time. Make sure Fn + F6 is on so the laptop screen stays on.
You will more than likely need to enable the external monitor port of the laptop, using the Fn key, and one of the F Keys along the top. On the Travelmate's it's usually F5, so hold the Fn Key and press F5, with the monitor connected and powered up. You should find it springs into life. If not, you need to look for the monitor key on your laptop. It will look like an F Key along the top, but will have a little symbol showing two monitors on it (two rounded edge rectangles).
does it work with external monitor ?
the key should be Fn+F5 or Fn+F6
I believe you need to hold fn and press f5 to choose the target (lcd, monitor, lcd and monitor).
