The remote that I have is a Sony RM-Y909, and it does not have the "O Return" button that is required to unlock the disc tray. Somehow, someone in my family managed to lock the tray using this remote, but I cannot determine how to reverse this without knowing the equivalent to the "O return" button from the original remote for the Sony DVP-NS715P DVD Player. Looked for the original remote, no luck finding it, if we ever had one.
Tried unlocking with the O Return function off the face of the DVD player, but no luck. The manual states this must be done with the remote, but I tried it on the player anyway, just out of desperation and to rule out the possibility that it just might work.
This is one of those fixes that makes you feel really stupid. We called Best Buy (where we purchased the system) and they told us to unplug the DVD player and plug it back in again. It worked! Duh!

Do you mean it is disc locked or tray locked? If it is tray locked, it may require workshop attention, which could be expensive (depending on the nature of the problem). If it is DISC LOCK, try this:
Up to 20 discs can be
locked.
[ Lock ] - To block the playback of the current disc. Subsequent access to a locked disc requires a six-digit password.
The default password is 136900.
[ Unlock ] - All discs can be played.
(You enter the six digit code as above then press OK on remote) (resourced from elsewhere)
