THE FOLLOWING IS COURTESY OF MICROSOFT Help and Support

When you plug a USB device into a Windows XP-based computer immediately after the computer comes out of standby (S3) or hibernate (S4), the computer may not recognize the USB device. When this issue occurs, the USB device may be listed in Device Manager as an unknown device, and you may receive the following warning message:
Unrecognized device has been found.

This issue occurs because, when the computer comes out of S3 or S4, there is a five- to ten-second period when the selective suspend feature of the USB driver will interfere with detection of a new USB device connection. The time period depends on several factors. This includes the following factors:• Host controller hardware
• Attached hubs
• Attached devices
• USB driver versions
• Support for USB 2.0
• Additional system hardware or configurations that may change the timing
There may be other reasons that a USB device is not detected

Method 1
loadTOCNode(2, 'workaround'); After the computer comes out of S3 or S4, wait five to ten seconds before you plug the USB device into the computer or hub.

Method 2
After the computer comes out of S3 or S4, unplug the USB device, and then plug the device back into the computer or hub.

Method 3
Use the Device Manager to scan for new hardware. Follow these steps: 1. Click Start, click Run, type Devmgmt.msc, and then click OK..
2. On the Action menu, click Scan for hardware changes. This causes Windows to recognize new devices.
3. Close Device Manager and Control Panel.

Method 4
Disable power management of the USB hub.
Note If you perform the following procedure, you may also reduce the battery life on a portable computer.
To disable power management on the USB hub, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, click Run, type devmgmt.msc, and then click OK.
2. Expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers node, and then follow these steps for each USB Root Hub that is listed: a. Right-click the USB Root Hub, and then click Properties.
b. Click the Power Management tab.
c. Click to clear the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power check box, and then click OK.

Note: it will find all of your outdated drivers

This will automatically search for and find the correct driver you will have to update every driver individually once you update you might be asked whether you want to restart or make a system restore point.

Click no to both of these then continue updating each driver free then restart once all of the drivers have been updated.

I can't get my Compac Evo N610 to reconize my docking station usb ports what do i do?

I have a solutions that might work, please for the love of god, next time give it as much detail as possible. Navigate to Start>run type:MSCONFIG. Enable everything unless you are absolutely sure you don't need it.
Right click on My Computer, click on properties. Go to the hardware tab at the top, click on device manager to see if there is a conflict.
Try a different port.
Try the hub on a different computer.
If your hub has a power input, now would be the best time to plug it in.
Plug directly into computer.
Make sure the device is plugged in securely, same goes for the devices plugged into it.
If that port is for power only and you plugged it in thinking it would work for data, please don't ask.
Any error messages?
If your computer can boot off a flash drive, Go to bios, test the port and the hub.

My best advice would be to contact Memorex support, and if you find that not helpful you can check in some linux forums to see if someone has written a 3rd party driver for you traveldrive

Hope this helps

Hi,
this will depend on how the data is input-output, to and from the device. if it,s USB then usually it,ll be transfered in and out the same way. as long as the computer your transfering to, has the same ports. i should,nt see a problem.
You may have to install the relevant software and device drivers on both machines.

A-hi speed usb device is plugged into a non-high spped usb hub

this usually happens when you plug a 2.0 usb device into a 1.0 device. If your appliance works then i wouldn't worry about it but if you have older technology then it may be time to upgrade

Some USB devices seem to cause this problem. I've had it myself. USB devices when hooked up cause the computer to freeze as it hard for USB drivers to be loaded outside of windows. Try updating you windows thru windows update though even updated I still run into the problem sometimes. If updating dosen't work you need to keep the drive unhooked while booting then hook up in windows.
