The SX 4000 is a "Daisy Wheel" printer. A plastic Wheel with the letters embossed on them spin via the input of the keyboard. I would suggest that your Daisy Wheel mhas slipped its index, presenting a offset letter., or the wheel is on inproper, but I do not see how it could happen, short of forcing it on. You may have to buy another Daisy Wheel, if that one is broken at the hub. See:

Hammer sticking & typing incorrect letters: WD40'd the hammer at the base & joints where moving parts are. kept typing until oil seeped in and it fixed it.

typing light and inconsistant-top part of letter okay but bottom too light or not there: to left of hammer are 2 screws, I losened them and adjusted hammer to different forward and backward spots..finally found the ideal location where full letter printed.

When I type letter keys, numbers come up with the letters

That's because some are dual function keys; you've probably hit the 'Alt' or 'Fn' key to the bottom left of the keyboard by accident. If you look carefully at the letter keys, they should have numbers on them in a different colour/smaller text.

How to turn on numlk for gateway NE56R31u

You may have hit a certain combination of keys on your Gateway laptop and turned on the NumLock function accidentally. The result is that the rectangle of keys from the 7 key down to the question mark key have become a number-entry keypad. Worse, Gateway manuals don't discuss this function.

Hold down the "Fn" key on the bottom row of the keyboard, and press the "NumLk" key. Type the letters UIO. If they come out as numbers, move on to the next step. Hold down the "Fn" key and press the "F11" key. Type the letters UIO. If they come out as numbers, move on to the next step. Hold down the "Fn" key and press the F11 key and "Scroll Lk" key simultaneously. Type the letters UIO. If they come out as numbers, move on to the next step. Hold down the "Fn" key and press the "F9" key. Type the letters UIO. If they come out as numbers, move on to the next step. Hold down the "Fn" key and press the "Scroll Lk" key. Type the letters UIO. They should come up as letters. If none of these help, then it's probably a keyboard malfunction and you'll need to get it repaired.

Hello there,
Did you check the keypad for alternate keys.
For example net books, the number keys on the right side has an alter key on the some letters like the image below. when you accidentally press the [Fn] key, Numbers are written instead of letters..

Hye mr expert...Here i have some question about my samsung netbook n220 series. For your info...actually this problem never happen before. The problem is some of my key not working & some of my key...

Hi,

The problem with your Netbook seems to be that you have turned "NUMBER LOCK" or "NUM LOCK" on. This causes some of the letter keys, e.g U,I,O,J,K,L,M to be printed as numbers 0,1,2,3,4,5,6.

To turn this off, hold down the "FN" key (near the bottom left of the keypad) and then press "F11" and then release both keys.

Please try this and post back if you need further assistance.

Regards,
BElectric
