Question about HP Photosmart C3180 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Printer will not set itself. I have put a new black ink cartridge in and it started to rub along the side. So I took out the color one as well and reset both cartridges, now they both rub. I took both out and it runs along the guides fine. Is it possible the little wire that helps set the cartridges are bad? Are they suppose to be in a specific position? They do push in and click in but they feel like they should be easier to push in don't feel as smooth as use they use to.

Black ink will not print but colors do

Most likely culprit is a dried up ink within the nozzles themselves. The best things for getting rid of dried ink in the nozzles is to use either a standard bathroom cleaner or rubbing alcohol. With the printer on open the door as if you were replacing ink. With the ink cartidges visable, unplug the printer so they stay put. Remove the cartridge and spray the cleaner in the where the ink is taking from the cartridge and clean it with whatever works. I really really good trick is if you have an old cartridge you can use a syringe to fill up the empty cartridge with your cleaning solution or rubbing alcohol. Insert the cartridge and run some test prints. This will for sure run the cleaner through the nozzle and hopefully dissolve the blockage.

Can you copy a document under the glass? B&W and color?

Are you using Dell Series 5 ink cartridges?

Unplug the printer from the wall. Now remove the power brick from the back of the printer for 60 seconds. Plug everything back in. This will reset any error messages the printer has.

Power on the printer. Open the printer and take out the Dell Series 5 Black cartridge. make sure all the tape is off the cartridge and put the cartridge back in. Now do the same for the Dell Series 5 color cartridge.

Close the printer. It should print an alignment page. Any error messages?

Black cartridge = black side(left side) color cartridge = color side(right side)

Photo cartridge = black side(left side) color cartridge = color side(right side)

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges.

Dell Series 5 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

If these ink cartridges are new, then take them to the place of purchase for a refund or replacements. If they're old, then try purchasing a new Dell Series 5 ink cartridge.

Changing ink cartridge

  • Here is an instruction set I found at http://www.ehow.com/how_4488808_replace-ink-cartridges-lexmark-x2500.html
  • Step 1 Press the "Power" button to turn on your Lexmark X2500 3-in-1 printer.
  • Step 2 Open the top portion of the printer to reveal the ink cartridges.
  • Step 3 Lift the gray plastic cover on the left. Remove the empty black #28 ink cartridge. Next, lift the purple plastic cover on the right and remove the empty color #29 ink cartridge.
  • Step 4 Remove the new black #28 ink refill cartridge from its packaging. Tear the protective strip of paper from the cartridge's sensor. Now, remove the new color #29 ink refill cartridge from its packaging and tear the protective strip of paper from the cartridge's sensor.
  • Step 5 Turn the cartridges so that you can read the label. This is the way the cartridges should face when being put into the printer.
  • Step 6 Slide the black #28 cartridge into the slot on the left side and push it down. Slide the color #29 cartridge into the slot on the right side and push down.
  • Step 7 Push the gray plastic cover down over the #28 cartridge until it clicks closed. Push the purple plastic cover down over the #29 cartridge until it clicks closed.
  • Step 8 Close the top portion of the printer. Your new ink cartridges are installed, and your printer is ready to use.

Lexmark 5400 cartridge carrier slams up against back???? Won't stop!! It's a new printer, put in a high cap black and low cap color cartridge. Any ideas how to fix this?

Cartridges may not be seated properly. Remove all the cartridges from the printer. Close the cover. Unplug the printer from the power source. Wait for about 10-15 seconds. Plug printer back to power source. If printer ink cartridge carrier still slams on the sides, encoder strip of the printer might be damaged. If it's still within warranty from where you bought it, have it replaced at that store. If ink cartridge carrier is not slamming to the sides, re-insert the cartridges. Make sure there are no obstructions along the carrier's path. Close the cover. Let the printer print the alignment page. If it's still going to slam the carrier, have it replaced.

Installed new black ink cartridge and it says it is not compatible. It is the identical HP #65 that I took out of it.

Try lifting the lid - does the pritner allow you to remove it? If so take it out with a pencil eraser rub along the bottom and then re-insert it.

Two possible solutions depending on the issue.
Most likely it is a hardware issue. Get a cotton swab and alcohol and rub lightly along the bottom of the casing which holds the B&W cartridge, also wipe any dried ink from the bottom of the cartridge itself with a paper towel.

However, if the problem is in the configuration. You may need to make sure that the printer is configured to use B&W and color cartridges and not configured to use two color cartridges. It is supposed to autodetect, but may not be detecting properly. If this is the case it should indicate this on the printer configuration page. (Not the Windows Printer Test Page.)

See your documentation on how this is created for your printer model if you don't know how to print the configuration.

    C88 only green and yellow

You are out of black and magenta (tricolor cartridge) ink or ink has dried up.
Try touching the nozzle plate (underneath print cartridge) with a water dampened cloth (not alcohol) for cleaning clogged nozzles (do not rub).
Ultimate remedy : put in contact nozzle plate with hot water for about 5 seconds.
If color still missing your printer need new cartridges.
