My xbox360 will not read any disc it just says tray open

I've experienced this problem too. these following steps helped me to solve it: 1: blow air in the xbox while the tray is open to remove dust. 2: put disc in tray and open and close it like 5 times. 3: You probably heard this before, clean the disc;) 4: Maybe sounds weird, knock on the xbox while its reading the disc. The XBox 360 is a wonderful video game console, however, with heavy usage, the laser (and/or other components in the drive) will eventually burn out. The first signs of the laser starting to burn out is that your game will start freezing during game play. Yes the disc reading problem is quite bad all you need to do is use a good repair guide or you can send it in and they will fix it for you.

The way to fix this is to open the disk tray and blow inside for about thirty seconds getting the dust out of the way of the laser also blow across the disc tray and the surface of the disk. Then keep closing and opening the tray and it will start to read hopefully. if this does not work go out and buy a disc cleaner. it looks like a disc with sponges on it and when you insert it into the console it cleans the inside for you. open it up ( very carefully) and check to see if the disk tray end is still attached or alligned to the plastic gears that eject the tray. if so check the rubber band to make sure it has not broke or streched.
