Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

Amana Refrigerator I have an Amana - DRS2662AW Refrigerator, and I noticed that it isn't cooling anymore. When I turn the cooling controls off then back on it sounds like it wants to come on, but then clicks off. What could be the problem and is this a DIY?

It sounds like a bad:

  • start switch (on the side of the compressor) or
  • compressor itself
the start switch clicks  off usually when the compressor is pulling too many amps or the compressor is overheating. if the compressor is not even running then its probably not overheating.
  • so either the compressor is pulling too many amps (bad compressor) or the start switch is bad and cannot handle the amps required to start the compressor.

My Black Amana sxs Model SCD25JPW Fridge isn't cooling. Both sides are hot

OK, lets try a couple of things before you run out and buy a new unit. On that unit I believe the defrost thermostat is on the front bottom of the unit. Turn the little dial til it clicks and tell me if the unit kicks on.

Amana refrigerator bottom freeze is not cooling; about 8 years old; the cooling switch was replaced and still does not cool

Kim pull refrigerator away from wall and unplug power. Remove lower panel that cover compressor and condenser fan and condenser coils. Don't wait too long but feel the top of compressor and tell me if cool, warm or too hot to hold had there. Let me know those results as I gather up the possible problems that could be related. Did you by chance check the defrost timer by turning timer through opening below and behind the Control panel=> ARB2217CSR Control Panel Did you say you changed a switch or thermostat here? See the defrost timer in photo at location 12? Try turning clockwise slowly until compressor starts or stops what ever may be happening. If stuck in defrost the timer part number=> 67001036 Defrost Timer It is possible that is the only problem but I will wait until I hear from you on turning the defrost Timer and feeling the top of compressor. If this post is helpful please rate, Thank You, John Tripp/AKA Sea Breeze

Amana DRS2662AW Lights are on and I can hear the motor running but no cold air is coming out of vents. Freezer is defrosting. I have vacummed out coils on lower front.

Many times a freezer and/or refrigeratordo not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many otherthings that can go wrong. If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing thencheck out the last two tips.

Freezer too cold, fridge not working - Amana freezer on bottom

Something tells me you are right.
I'm sure you know that cold air seeks the lowest point, in your case, the freezer drawer.
About every combination unit I have ever seen uses a fan to 'stir' the air in a controlled manner and one or more adjustable vents to allow you to balance the distribution of the cooled air.
I'd place my bet on the failure of a (possibly Chinese) fan motor that isn't turning anymore.
