Lens error: camara has broken gears in lens assembly

The camara was dropped, now when it is turned on it makes a ticking noise. the lens extense half way out, then clicks again trying to retract back in. i disassembled the camara and lens assembly to find a broken gear. do i need more parts than just the gear assembly or can that be replaced by itself?

My camera is having the same issues - it was in my purse - inside it's case and when i pulled it out and tried to use it - it makes a buzzing noise and the light flashes and the camera says, "lens error". I just found out I am not able to use my warranty. What can I do to fix it?

Hi kevin3738 and a_nester

ok for kevin3738,
im thinking that since you said your lens doesn't extend all the way out that maybe you might have cracked a gear in the lens housing, the mechanism to extend that is located when you open the camera and take off the front face plate, on the right side of the lens housing **silver part** you see a black plastic casing attached to a motor on top and screws in it, that is what moves the lens housing in and out, in that are a few gears, i think 4 of them lat move the housing, 3 small ones and one big one that reaches down to the bottom of the housing, they are interchangable but im not sure as to where you could find a gear to replace the broken or cracked one,

And for a_nester
im gonna take a guess at what exactly the problem is on your camera, and it might be the lens autofocus
in that case you can look here

I turn on my camara and then the lens makes a noise and it turns of right away,i charge the battery (fully) and it still turns off

maybe because you have a lens error trouble, Lens errors (system errors) are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them:wish you luck thanks

I have a Casio Exilim EX-Z33 and i dropped it a while ago and it continued to work (kind of, the images were a bit blurry). i took a picture five minutes ago and then turned it off. the lens went in but...

Sounds like the focus motor came loose - you need to take it apart and repair the gear that drives the lens assembly for focusing. The noise you're hearing is the motor trying to focus but since the lens cannot focus it continues to run and signals an error.

The zoom lens will not retract when you turn it off, subsequently an error message (E18) apprears when you turn it on. the camara store wants $150 to fix it......is this something I can fix myself? Thanks...

Zoom error

worked on allot of fuji's. first detease, a gear is slipping in the lens retract assembly due to a crack or wear or jam

2nd guest .. zoom errors means its really stuck tight

the gears can be ordered and replaced and one more possibility is that the motor that drives the gear is bad
Also if dropped or zoom lens jammed hard... lens assembly needs total realignment or replacing..

Error-C1

Dirt /dust in the lens and lens gear box ( this drives zooming only ) preventing optimum functioning. Lens cannot properly come on line ( shutter and diaphragh mechanism then do not come on line ) and the camera switches off. Solution : is ether replace lens unit or dismantle lens to clean out ( from gear box and the helicoil of the lens ).
