Hi there,
I own a vacuum repair business and I see this pretty often. Basically plaster dust is too light and too fine to be caught effectively in the dirt chamber. What happens is a small portion of this dust goes into the motor and wears out the brushes and causes it to burn out.
basically it is a 99% chance that you need a complete new motor.
The only other thing possible really is a unrelated fluke (like 1 in 1000 chance) that the switch or cord failed at that time.
If you need the parts and can do the repair yourself try vacuumspot or nelsonvacuums.
