Hi. I've had a plasterer and tiler doing some work in my house and they have tried to use the dyson to clear up after themselves. This has resulted in a complete loss of power, it won't even turn on. I have changed the fuse and no luck. What have they done to it?!

Hi there,
I own a vacuum repair business and I see this pretty often. Basically plaster dust is too light and too fine to be caught effectively in the dirt chamber. What happens is a small portion of this dust goes into the motor and wears out the brushes and causes it to burn out.
basically it is a 99% chance that you need a complete new motor.
The only other thing possible really is a unrelated fluke (like 1 in 1000 chance) that the switch or cord failed at that time.
If you need the parts and can do the repair yourself try vacuumspot or nelsonvacuums.
If you found this solution helpful (even if it wasn't what you wanted to hear) please take a moment to rate the solution!.

Why does my Dyson Dc-39 vacuum have good suction, but the beater bar barley turns?

Hi Greg, it's Jack at Dyson.

The brush bar in DC39's Triggerhead floor tool is driven by an airflow-powered turbine. If your vacuum has strong suction but the brush bar stalls on carpeting, it suggests something may be jamming the brush bar.

Follow the steps shown in our online support guide to remove the brush bar, clear any threads or hair from around the brush bar and endcap, and to check the cleaner head for other obstructions: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc39/dc39-animal/maintaining-your-dyson-machine/dc38th-removing-blockages

If you continue to have difficulty with the brush bar after completing these checks, I'm sure we can help you further. Please call our experts on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU). If a replacement Triggerhead floor tool is needed, we can also confirm if this is covered under your Dyson parts and labour guarantee.

My dyson won't go back into the upright position after hovering, seems to be stuck in the working position.

Hi Diane, it's Jack at Dyson.

It sounds like your stabiliser pedal needs to be realigned. This is simple to do - please take a look at the video I've attached.

I'm confident this will resolve the issue, but if you would like further advice after you've given this a try, please email me directly at [email protected] and I'll be in touch as soon as possible.

Best wishes,

Jack

Comcast dc50

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.
From what you've described in your question, it sounds very likely that you have a blockage somewhere between the cleaner head and the bin. Please follow the steps shown in the video above to locate any obstructions from the cleaner head, and to remove any threads or hair from around the brush bar.
Once you've done this, it's also a good idea to follow the steps shown in our online Support guide for help locating blockages in the internal hose:

My Dyson D14 was used by electricians to clean up plaster dust when chasing out wiring! It has not worked properly since. My husband has twice taken it apart and cleaned filters carefully drying all

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

Our machines are designed and tested for standard domestic use only, and we do advise against using them to clean up large quantities of fine powders, such as plaster dust.

It's possible that if the plaster dust has damaged the filter, replacing this will improve performance. However, I'd encourage you to get in touch with us directly before ordering a replacement - our experts will take you through some quick troubleshooting checks just to make sure that a new filter will resolve the issue.

You can reach our freephone customer Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US). Please have your machine to hand when you call.

Best wishes,

My dyson d70 won't pick up efficiantly, i have been hoovering plaster up previous to this. i have lost my user manual and can't remove the fillters to clean them.

Plaster dust is very fine and can get into the motor. Clean every part of the suction system, I've seen them be full of plaster pieces blocking the flow. Wash or replace every filter, dry before trying again.

Hi. DC14 not running. Repeated pressing of the switch occasionally produces a split second whirr from the motor. I had been picking up plaster dust for some time but stopping regularly to clear out filters...

Hi again. I finally figured out access to the motor. One of the brushes was burnt and broken. I have ordered a replacement set and cleaned up the comutator ( spelling ?). Thanks, Chris

Filter seems clogged.

Its fully blocked, needs stripping down and cleaning.
Start with the brush roller compartment, clean in their and take the bucket off and clean all filters Get your contractor back and tell him to get it serviced.
The motor housing will need cleaning as well.

Dyson dc11 makes a groaning sound and no suction

It is more than likely that you've caused blockage in your turbines. Plaster dust is very very fine and will have passed through your filter quite easily. It's also more than likely that the plaster dust has affected your motor.

If you turn it on and you hear popping, then motor is more than likely deceased. If you hear something like a valve releasing when you turn the machine off then there may be a blockage.

Probably best to refer to your local Dyson via www.dyson.com

Dyson vacuum cuts off

hi this sound like a familiar problem of the motor o/heating due to lack of ventilation ? check the filters ok? remove the cover concealing the roller brush/beater and check for clogging at the underneath and housing clear it out properly easier to remove/lift out roller ? also clear out the clear bucket dust collector and most important the cone that fits into this canister has a cylindrical honeycombed/small holes(looks like hundreds? ) use a small pointed impliment to poke out all!!these holes as these are relative to vacuum within cylinder so if not clear ? motor no vent and result is no/poor vac and o/heat then thermo switch kicks in and shuts down till motor cools hope this helps best wishes from uk
